Latest Gold Award Winning Wedding Photo

Worcestershire Wedding Photographer wins Gold Award

Reportage / Documentary Wedding Photography

Hello there,  David here from www.davidpurslow.com

I am very pleased to be able to announce that I recently won a Gold award.  Last month I shot a fantastic wedding at Gellifawr in Pembrokeshire West Wales.  I am pleased to say that one of the photos from this wedding won top place and received a gold award by DFP

As a professional photographer I think its important to constantly challenge yourself and there is no better way for a photographer to do this than entering competitions.  Being judged by ones piers has always been the best way for one to grow in any profession.  As a member of the PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS only Drama Free Photography Forum –  a collection of professional photographers from all over the world, whos membership is made up with members of such photography society’s as   The MPA – The Master Photographers Association, The SWPP – The Society of Wedding & Portrait Photographers,  The ISPWP – The International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers, The AG|WPJA The Artistic Guild of the Wedding Photojournalist Association and many many  more I enter their monthly image competitions.

Each month members are encouraged to enter two photos to be voted upon. There is a panel of judges selected from the membership of the forum (of which I am not a judge!) and who judge each entry submitted.  If an image received enough ‘points’ it will be awarded either a Bronze, Silver or Gold award.

The top image each month take center stage on the front page of the Drama Free Photography website.

This is the Gold Award image that took the top spot for January 2011

The image is hard to see if there is a lot of white area around your screen so I have put it up again below on a black background – the image was processed on a colour calibrated screen and if your screen is set up correctly you should be able to see the grass around the couple, the rocks etc – if you cant then your screen is off or there is too much light facing your eyes

below is a link to expand this page – there you will see a bigger version of the image on a black background.

So whats it like being photographed by me ?

Hi there,

Something a little different today.  In an effort to ‘jaz’ up the site a little, give it a bit more dynamism I have decided to add a video from one of my weddings last year.

The video is actually behind the scenes footage of me shooting, I also teach wedding photography (if you want to know more about that email me at david@davidpurslow.com)

The video is an edited version of one that I share with my students so contains some technical data on the shots, but without putting the whole thing together again I would not have been able to add it so quickly.

This section is Fly on the wall stuff, it follows me shooting some of the Bridal Prep photos and also the Confetti shot and then onto the ‘Couples Alone Shoot’ – this was a 10 minute segment where the wedding guests left to go to the reception and The Bride, Groom and myself spent 10 minutes shooting a few more arty photo’s

What you will see is the way I shoot, I like to set the scene and then let the couple – You and your new husband have a bit of alone time while I shoot from a distance.  I am not one of those in your face photographers so use longer lenses most of the time to distance myself from you guys, this way you have intimate time together, can talk and chit chat and feel alone and all in love – I just take photos of it all.

In this short video you will see just how many great photos this alone 10 minutes produced.

I hope you like it.

Himley House Winter Wedding Photography

The wedding of Tracey & John

Getting married at Himley House, Dudley, West Midland

Sneak Peek – Just a few teasers……

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Tracey and John at the stunning Himley House situated between Kingswinford and Wombourne Just southwest of Birmingham in the West Midlands.  What made this wedding a little unusual was the days before it snowed and snowed so there was a TOTAL blanket of snow on the ground.  The view of Himley House in the snow was magnificent.

We arrived about 2 hours before the wedding, or about an earlier than we normally would, we spent that hour taking photos of Himley House in the snow and lots of detail shots.

The bride and Groom by the Christmas Tree at by the main staircase – this is why I love winter weddings.  Winter wedding photography has its own challenges including the cold, bright glare and the reluctance for couples to go outside for photos, but with winter weddings come Christmas weddings and all the associated bonuses that go with it.

The Christmas tree at Himley House looked amazing

I love this shot of Tracey taken during the service

The good news for us is that Tracey and John were excited about a winter wedding so when I suggested we went outside for a few wedding photos in the snow, they were more than happy to oblige !

This shot taken at the golf club was taken while it was snowing, we had another few inches of snow during the reception

I hope you have enjoyed this sneak peek – Winter weddings are GREAT fun, so if your getting married in the winter, dont worry about the weather, if its cold and snowy it just makes for much prettier photos.

Sami & Matt’s Engagment Shoot

Sami & Matt’s Engagement Session

A Fun Family Day at the Beach !

Hi there guys, dp here from David Purslow Photography – if you post via a search engine then can I highly recommend you visit my wedding photography website located at www.davidpurslow.com

A little while back I had the pleasure of shooting (in the nicest possible way) Sami and Matt’s engagement session – I am sure Sami will jump up and down when she reads that her wedding is very fast approaching.    Sami and Matt seem to have booked me as their wedding photographer years ago, I am not sure if it was in 2009 or 2008 but it was a very long time indeed.  The reason I say this is when they booked me I was not offering signing books……

Whats a signing book – well its a beautiful wedding album that is printed on fine art paper that you can write on, the basic idea is you put together a collection of nice romantic photos from your engagement session into a presentation with lots of white space around the pages and then people can write you a message in the white space.

I have one I use as a demo album and I get brides who’s weddings I have shot to write in them or couples who have booked me to pop a few words in there as to why they picked me to be their wedding photographer.  In this picture you can see what Sami and Matt wrote in my book after their engagement session.

If you want to see more pictures of my album styles just click on the photo above !

So back to Sami & Matts engagement session.

Well as I was saying I shot their engagement session and their wedding is fast approaching.  We finalized the signing book album design and I wanted to share it with you.

Signing books make for a GREAT talking piece but more than that they make for a FANTASTIC keep sake and a totally unique memory of your wedding day.  Just imagine lots of pages filled with comments from all your friends, family and loved ones.

So here it is – I cant show you the cover as currently its somewhere over the Atlantic on its way over to  – bet Sami is jumping up and down again 🙂

*** How to use the Slide show ***

  1. Click the play button – then a little menu pops up at the bottom of the slide show
  2. If you do nothing the show will start in about  a second or so – but for the full effect – at any time, just put your mouse over the slide show and……
  3. Click the icon second from the right hand side to view in FULL SCREEN MODE !!!!
  4. Pressing escape will bring you right back down to earth

I hope you enjoyed.

Birmingham Wedding Photography Special Offer

Wedding Photography for Birmingham and Worcester

Local wedding photographer covering The West Midlands and Worcestershire

Hello there, dp here from www.davidpurslow – and I am a professional full time wedding photographer based out of the West Midlands.  I am based in Hartlebury just outside of Kidderminster.  I am about 35 minutes from Birmingham and cover all of Birmingham including Solihull, Birmingham Town Center as well as the outskirts of town.

Chances are you have not heard of me before and thats because prior to February 2010 I was living and working in Pembrokeshire West Wales.   We moved to be closer to family following an illness with my mother who lives in Kidderminster.  I have been a professional wedding photographer for over 10 years now and have shot weddings all over the UK including London, Holy Island, Worcester, Birmingham, Codsall etc.

So being the newest Wedding photographer in the Birmingham area I needed to come up with something really special to help me stand out.  I dont know why I was surprised really having spent the past week looking at wedding venues in Worcester, Birmingham, Solihull, Warwickshire, Herefordshire, Codsall nr Wolverhampton and Gloucestershire its obvious to me that first, there are LOTS AND LOTS more brides and grooms getting married up this way (lets face it, Birmingham and the Midlands come second only to London in terms of population) The second thing I noticed was there are some amazing Stately Homes, Country Houses and Boutique wedding venues in this area – these are my kind of venues and the perfect place for my flamboyant and creative style of wedding photography.

As soon as I arrived in the midlands I visited a wedding fair and was shocked that pretty much all of the wedding photographers in the Birmingham area are offing albums that limited the number of photos or pages in the wedding albums and some started off with really small wedding albums which in my humble opinion should really be parents albums not wedding albums.

Wedding at The Elms Hotel – Abberley Worcestershire
