Photo of the Week Sunday 28th July 2013

Hello there,

The funny thing about being a wedding photographer is its a passion not really a job.  So a few weeks back I found myself without a wedding on a Saturday in June.  Eager to practice something different I asked a photographer friend and long time second shooter Clare Tebbett if she had a wedding of her own, as it happened she did so I asked if I could come along just to ‘play’

I wedding of Sharon and James took place at Salford Hall in Eversham on a glorious sunny day and both bride and groom looked amazing.  Here is a playful shot I snapped while Clare was shooting her Bride & Groom photos.

I will blog the whole wedding (well my portion of it) in a few weeks time but I just LOVE LOVE LOVE Sharons dress, it was amazing to photograph.

A Christmas Wedding at Hotel Du Vin Birmingham

Hello,

Yesterday I was very fortunate to be asked by my very good friend Sean O’Shaughnessy who is a wedding and portrait photographer based in Sollihull his website is http://essayphotography.co.uk/

Sean was asked by friends to photograph their wedding at the very popular and beautiful wedding venue, Hotel Du Vin in Birmingham, a venue Sean knows I have wanted to shoot for a long time.  Sean asked if I fancied ‘coming out to play’ After a bit of grovelling to Mrs P, I had a hall pass allowing me out for the day and hopped on a train armed with a very limited selection of kit to play with.

Hotel Du Vin in Birmingham is an amazing wedding venue however parking is limited so I carefully selected just 2 lenses (although I only used one all day long) and 2 lights, all of which I managed to pack in my my much loved Lowepro travel pak mini back pack. Snow Hill station is about a 4 minute walk from the hotel so it worked out perfectly.

Hotel Du Vin Wedding Photos

The wedding itself was very informal and the couple – Martin and Sara wanted a few ‘great’ photos and just some shots of guests enjoying themselves.  Between Sean and myself they got this and then some, the coverage of the actual wedding ceremony was amazing, the wedding took place at 4:30 so there was no natural light to speak of, but Sean and I both have top of the range Nikon Cameras and very fast lenses that allow beautifully for low light shooting.  The Registrars at Birmingham were amazing and allowed us free Raine as long as we didn’t use flash, its so refreshing to find such understanding and willing to work together registrars, so thanks to then.

My brief for the day was to show off the venue and create some of the ‘Signature’ style images I love to shoot featuring the Hotel Du Vin.  The inside of the hotel is like a 1940’s New York City hotel, its full of amazing features but its very dark, if your (as a photographer) not careful you can loose all of the attraction and character of the venue by using flash that just sucks all the ambiance out of the place.  Because of this I got there an hour early, met up with Sean and we sent that time working out how we would  approach the lighting.  One thing we wanted to do was capture the fact it was Christmas and some of the Christmas trees and decorations around the hotel

I left at 8pm as there was no formal speeches or meal and Sean was staying to cover the evening.  I could not wait to get home to view the images we created, and I was not disappointed !!!!!

The following images are some of the Signature images from the day and have been edited on my laptop therefor the colours might not quite be as crisp as they should be !

Many thanks to Sean, Martin and Sara for allowing me to play and spend some time shooting at a truly amazing wedding venue.

enjoy.

Tanworth in Arden Wedding Photography

Rachel and Alister getting married at Mary Magdalene Church

Wedding Reception at The Bell Tanworth in Arden

Hello there,

Very quick post tonight as just got home from an amazing wedding today.  The couple, Rachel and Alister actually live in Australia and came over to the UK to get married.  When I heard that the couple were getting married at Mary Magdalen Church in Tanworth in Arden I was very excited as its a truly beautiful church.  The reception was across the road, and I mean directly, 35 steps across the road at the fabulous The Bell but before that was drinks on the village green and Morris Men dancing to entertain the crowds.

I offered to pop a few photos online so the guys back in Australia could get a quick sneak peek so thats exactly what this is,

its just a quick peek, not going to do my normal blog story just yet, but a whole bunch of photos from today to give you a feel for the day

enjoy,

congratulations to Rachel and Alister

Sami & Matt’s Engagment Shoot

Sami & Matt’s Engagement Session

A Fun Family Day at the Beach !

Hi there guys, dp here from David Purslow Photography – if you post via a search engine then can I highly recommend you visit my wedding photography website located at www.davidpurslow.com

A little while back I had the pleasure of shooting (in the nicest possible way) Sami and Matt’s engagement session – I am sure Sami will jump up and down when she reads that her wedding is very fast approaching.    Sami and Matt seem to have booked me as their wedding photographer years ago, I am not sure if it was in 2009 or 2008 but it was a very long time indeed.  The reason I say this is when they booked me I was not offering signing books……

Whats a signing book – well its a beautiful wedding album that is printed on fine art paper that you can write on, the basic idea is you put together a collection of nice romantic photos from your engagement session into a presentation with lots of white space around the pages and then people can write you a message in the white space.

I have one I use as a demo album and I get brides who’s weddings I have shot to write in them or couples who have booked me to pop a few words in there as to why they picked me to be their wedding photographer.  In this picture you can see what Sami and Matt wrote in my book after their engagement session.

If you want to see more pictures of my album styles just click on the photo above !

So back to Sami & Matts engagement session.

Well as I was saying I shot their engagement session and their wedding is fast approaching.  We finalized the signing book album design and I wanted to share it with you.

Signing books make for a GREAT talking piece but more than that they make for a FANTASTIC keep sake and a totally unique memory of your wedding day.  Just imagine lots of pages filled with comments from all your friends, family and loved ones.

So here it is – I cant show you the cover as currently its somewhere over the Atlantic on its way over to  – bet Sami is jumping up and down again 🙂

*** How to use the Slide show ***

  1. Click the play button – then a little menu pops up at the bottom of the slide show
  2. If you do nothing the show will start in about  a second or so – but for the full effect – at any time, just put your mouse over the slide show and……
  3. Click the icon second from the right hand side to view in FULL SCREEN MODE !!!!
  4. Pressing escape will bring you right back down to earth

….

I hope you enjoyed.

I recently moved to the West Midlands area and now provide wedding photography for Birmingham, Worcester, Solihull, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Kidderminster and pretty much anywhere in the West Midlands.

I still shoot wedding in Pembrokeshire, West Wales and dont charge any extra for traveling !

Ciao
