A break from reality – Tina & Mark TTD (trash the dress shoot)

Hello there, David here from

**** UPDATE ****

We have now moved to Hartlebury in Worcestershire.  We now offer Trash the Dress shoots in Birmingham, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, The Cotswolds and beyond……  We are still available for Pembrokeshire and West Wales.

Today I took a break from processing weddings from the past few months and spent the day with Tina, Mark and Wayne.  We spent the day in Swansea and just had fun shooting a few gentle trash the dress pictures – The guys got married a few weeks ago so today was all about creating some fantastic images and using Tina’s dress to help do this.

A few romantic shots

A few playful shots – the first one is in a different wedding dress – its a long story !

a few sexy ones

A few photos that had more than a few people watching us

A little bit arty

The last photo of the day, Tina holding up traffic !

last but not least, Wayne hard at work – its a tough job !

Looks like fun ?

Want to do one ?

Give me a bell or drop me an email, trash the dress shoots are amazing fun, it was a long day but we got loads in – I received this a little while ago from Tina and Mark

What a perfect start to the day!

Hello there, dp here from

There is something very special about being a wedding photographer especially in a small community like Pembrokeshire, I constantly bump into people I met at this wedding or that wedding and people always stop me and say hi, its great.

Then there are the weddings from couples further afield, in 2008 I shot 30 weddings and of those 40 % were for brides who live outside of Pembrokeshire and over 30 % were for brides that live in England.  Lots of brides return to Pembrokeshire to get married, it is a special part of the country and makes for amazing memories and fantastic photos.

So what made today so special ?  Well when I got to my computer this morning there was a great email from one of my couples from last year.  The email was from Matt and Anna who live London way but who got married this way.  I only met then a few days before the wedding and everything was done online which is pretty normal for me with brides from further afield.  Well the email is below but it just made for the perfect start to the day and reminded me why I do this.

Wedding photography is MUCH more than just a job for me, I am very passionate about it and make connections with my couples, some are stronger than others but generally I end up making friends with my clients rather than just getting paid and being on my way.

So shortly before I sent off Matt and Anna’s album I heard she had has a baby,  I knew we had to send them a little something for the baby, Nikki went out and got a lovely little outfit for Sophie and we put it in with the album and sent it off.

Now at this stage I would like to point out –  these guys live a million miles away from me in London or about 5 hours away  – so I dont think they will ever be baby portrait clients, I dont think they will be getting married again and I dont think family portraits are on the cards so why send them something ?   Some of my photographer friends ask me from time to time why I do things like that, they see it as wasted marketing  – I tell them I dont do it as marketing I do it because its nice ! – it makes me feel good, I really liked the couple and well its what nice people do.

Here is the letter –

Hi David

I’m really sorry we’ve been so rubbish at getting back to you. The intention is to send a proper thankyou card, but life with a baby is delaying things!

We are SO pleased with our album. It is perfect, and I keep looking at it and thinking what a great day it was and what a great record of it to look at in years to come.I’m glad we went for the coffee-table style album. I’ve shown it to lots of people and they all agree it’s brilliant. Thankyou SO much. The choice of photos is fab and the colours too …what more can I say?! Tomorrow I’m even going to take it to show my hairdresser as my hairstyle looks good, especially the ones showing the back of my head!

We were also really touched  that you sent a present for Sophie. She will definitely be wearing it soon as she’s growing fast. After an awful labour, we have been given a really good baby! Phew! I’m not too sleep deprived and enjoying spending time with her and watching her change …it’s really amazing.Matt is a fantastic Dad and Sophie is really his little girl. I attach two photos taken ten days ago. She’s a cutie!

I think we owe you some money and we’ll get back to you about ordering some separate photos.

I hope your wife’s pregnancy is proceeding smoothly and that you are all well.

Will be in touch and thankyou SO much again!!! We are very happy that we chose you to photograph our wedding day.

Lots of love Anna x Matt and Sophie!

Thanks guys, thanks much.

Yet another fantastic testimonial

Hello there again, still david here from yes you guessed it

As you can see i am burning the midnight oil here in Pembrokeshire as the new year kicks off to a great start.  Had a couple of emails already from prospective brides and it looks like between Christmas and the New Year a few of you lucky ladies got some nice new diamonds to help celebrate with !

Okay, of all the testimonials I received in 2008, this by far is the one that brought a HUGE lump to my throat. Its because of this reason I have not put it up yet, I thought long and hard about it but decided that for 2009 I would add it as it really brings home just how important actually having a photographer at your wedding rather than a family member or friend to take a few pictures.  I HOPE none of you have to discover the value of photos that Sian had too so soon after her wedding.

I had the greatest pleasure of shooting the wedding of Sian and Simon earler in 2008, if I remember correctly it was the first of my weddings at the Beggars Reach Hotel in Burton Pembrokeshire in 2008.

One of the photos she is talking about in her email to me is the one shown below both the having it taken and the final outcome of the photo.  In the version Sian had for her wall blown up really big, I removed the curtain hanging down and cleaned up the image a lot, the image shown below has been taken directly off the wedding preview post I put up earlier last year that can be see here if you like.

Here is Sian’s Email – Sian god bless you and I hope you and Simon had a great new year X

Well….i couldnt wait! Im surprised ive lasted as long as i have……

I went and took the wedding photos to my mum…..And she absolutly loved them!

Now my mum is a very crictal person
But not a bad word or remark …..she couldnt find anything wrong with any of the photos!

I did say to you, that we wanted to enjoy our wedding photos, without family barging through the front door to look at them…but i couldnt resist!
I had to show someone…..!! So i took them to my mum then my sister…and so on….

The photo of me standing on the stair well at beggars reach was one omf my mums favourites, she said that it looks like something you would see in “Hello” magazine! WOW!

And the one of me lying on the bed…she loves that too….so do i…..!! I love them all….

I can pick which is our favourite, which is the one with Simon kissing my chest….now as elegant as it may look, my back was killing me (i suffer from a bad back anyway) Simon was stood on my shoes AND my dress….and all simon was saying was im gonna fall and drop you…..So from me through gritted teeth telling simon to get off my dress….came this gorgeous stunning photograph. We didnt think it would be that good.Till you shown me on the camera what it looked like….
It’s something you think you would only see in magazines…. FANTASTIC.

I love looking at them, i love sitting there watching people flicking through the photos and see there face go into a big grin and then “oh my god you look like something from a magazine.”

Now i know why you love to see the brides face!

And as you know, my dad suddenly and shockingly passed away 2months after we married at the age of 43, and right at the end was a big picture of my dad standing there doing his speach (which he was making up as he went along!)…..Now that is most certainly something i will always treasure – who knew that, that day you would capture our last ever family photos, with my mum 2 sisters and brother.

So just that one photograph in itself would of been enough! So David i really am truly grateful for your fantastic photography.

The other photo was when dad was leading me into the ceremony, where he has his arm out and a perfect picture of how(im my mums words) proud he looks to be walking me down the aisle……

So not only have you provided me and simon with a perfect reminder of our fantastic wedding day, you have also given us (especailly me) from just one day ,a life time of memories……and im getting all teary now!

Thankyou sssoooooo soooo much for photographing our very special day. We couldnt of gotten a better nicer man than you to have done them

I could give you a huge hug right now!!

Thankyou (again and a million times more)

Sian ans Simon.

Just received a great comment from bride and groom

Wow, what a way to end off 2008

On the 20th of December I shot the wedding of Matt and Rebecca you can view the preview shots here, well I just received this from them as the got back from the honeymoon.

One of the reasons I started the blog was for just this reason, to give couples someting to temp them with and to remind them of there special day while away on honeymoon, it sets the mind at rest that the pics came out okay.

I get a lot of comments like this but have never put them up on the blog until someone asked me for testimonials.

I recently posted up a great testimonial and will continue with them as they come in.

Okay off to watch The Great Escape and see in the new year with my honey, so see you all next year !

Ciao – dp
