A Beautiful Wedding at The Swan Hotel Bibury

The Wedding of Shelley & Bassem

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to shoot the amazing wedding of Shelley and Bassem.  During out initial meeting I asked the couple where they were getting hitched, they said they were getting married at The Swan Hotel in Bibury in the Cotswolds.  I love Bibury, infact I love all of the cotswolds but The Swan is perfectly placed right on the river and makes for a truly spectacular wedding venue.  A few months later we had the engagement session on a beach which was great and I knew then that Shelley and Bassem would make for great photos.  They were so natural together and more importantly so in love, its really nice to see two people connecting on such an emotional level.

Anyway, back to the big day.  Shelley and Bassem were getting married outside in the garden at The Swan, this is so great as outdoor weddings in the UK are few and far between so it was a great experience  They also asked that we take a little time out to take advantage of the area to get a ‘few’ signature style images for the walls etc.

Take a peek at just how beautiful the Swan Hotel in Bibury looks

The Swan Hotel, Bibury, Cotswolds

As I pulled up I noticed to the left of the blue sign an open window, then all of a sudden, Shelley poked her head out and yelled me a big hello ! – It was quite funny because the room Shelley was in had an amazing view over Bibury but also of everyone coming to the hotel.  So with Shelley set about 8 feet back in the room she was safe from prying eyes yet she still had a great view of people arriving.  Later when the dress was going on we had to be careful to make sure no one saw, I wanted as much natural light because it makes for much better photos so we kept Shelley away from the window as much as possible and NO ONE saw her before the wedding.  Chalk one up for Shelley.

One of the reasons I love natural light is you can use it to create some great effects, I love this shot, Here Shelley’s makeup artist (amazing makeup artist) Heidi Herkes – www.heidirherkes.com was spraying body spray and then Shelley was walking through it.

and the reaction to me snapping away like a made man – I took 5 shots in around 1/2 second to get the perfect patten of mist – Shelley feeling like she had been ‘Papped’ burst into laughter

A short while later, Shelley was putting on her earrings when her grandmother arrived – I loved gran, she gave me a special wave but I cant put it on the website just incase it offends anyone 🙂 – in the slideshow however it got a great laugh.

guests arriving for the wedding

well with a bunch of photos in the bag so to speak, I left the girls to a drink of bubbly and went out for  a few detail shots and to get pics of the garden which was just being setup.  I aked Shelley if I could take her engagement ring to grab a nice pic of it.  I love the little detail shots.

The garden at the Swan Hotel, Bibury – this is where the wedding service took place

then I went back up to Shelley’s room as time was getting close – Shelley was just putting on her dress and Mum and Nan were helping out.

One of the people who kind of slide under the radar is usually the father of the bride, you always get some nice photos of Dad as its a very special day for him, but normally they dont make the blog, well today I thought I would share one with you.

Then it was downstairs for the wedding, here I met up with Bassem who was looking very excited

and as the guests arrive, gran gives me another wave, this time I can show you 🙂

and then before you knew it, it was time for the bride to make her entrance – I love the features of the Swan hotel, directly opposite the gate to the garden is a doorway that looks like it came right out of  an old Greek mansion.

and as Shelley is walking down the aisle I turned and grabbed a shot of Bassem looking totally awestruck by the appearance of his bride, I am sure I could see a tear in there somewhere

Getting married at the swan hotel

it really was the dream wedding, from a wedding photographers point of view, a stunningly beautiful bride, a good looking groom, amazing light, an out door wedding and the red carpet – simply stunning.

confetti shot

Shelley and Bassem didnt want too many formals (something I dont shoot a great deal of) but we had around a dozen or so, while taking a big group shot, this little lad decided he didnt want to be in the photo but rather than just run off to one side, he made a beeline for me – naturally I just kept snapping away – this is one of those happy accidents that you often get and its one of the reasons I LOVE weddings, you just cant script them.

unusual wedding photography

then after the formals, I left people to their own devices and just did a bit of reportage style shooting or as some people prefer to call it, Documentary style wedding photography.

and I just love the intimacy of this image – Bassem and his mum

Then while the guests had canapes and a few drinks, I took Shelley and Bassem off for 15 minutes to grab a few images around Bibury

Then it was time for me to zip inside and shoot a few details before the guests when in for the wedding breakfast.

Following the wedding breakfast were a few short speeches

After the speeches were finished the wedding party went outside while the staff at the Swan turned the place over and got it ready for the evening guests.  We had about an hour and during this time I grabbed the happy couple again for another 10 minutes of bridal portraits – this time it was getting close to dusk so the light was amazing.

The Bridge at Bibury

Here I should say a HUGE thanks to Bassem and Shelley for being such troopers – I asked Shelley if she minded being thrown over the bridge in her amazing wedding dress – dont try this at home folks !

It just leaves me to say a HUGE congratulations to Bassem and Shelley.  Thanks for letting me be a part of your day, its such an honor to be chosen by a couple to capture the memories that will last them a lifetime.

I hope you have enjoyed this look at their day,

A beautiful wedding at the Cleddau Bridge Hotel

The Wedding of Emily and Nick

Beach Wedding photos at Freshwater West

The Wedding of Nick and Emily took place at the Cleddau Bridge Hotel, Pembroke Dock in Pembrokeshire on glorious sunny day a few weeks ago.  I had been looking forward to this wedding for a long time, and it proved to be worth the wait.  Emily and Nick booked me almost 2 years ago for the wedding, we were supposed to do an engagement shoot but that never came off, but thats the good news – we are going to be doing a post wedding shoot, a trash the dress session rolling around in the ocean amongst other things – it seems christmas came early for this photographer.

The day started off very different for me, I met up with the boys for breakfast at the local weatherspoons in Haverfordwest.

Here comes the groom

Pembrokeshire Wedding Photographer

After a beer or two, the boys sat down for a nice big cooked breakfast

After a breakfast and a few photos I headed off to meet up with the bride (Emily)

The week before Emily had told me her wedding was an Ian Stuart, my favorite wedding dress designer.  When I got to Emily’s mum’s  house I had a good look around for the best place to photograph the dress however after hunting around I felt there was no where that did the dress justice,  so I asked if she minded if I take it outside for a few photos, I have a penchant for beautiful wedding dress photos and I think Emily’s is one of my favorite of all time – Everything was perfect, the weather, the location, the placement of the sun and the perfect place to hang it from.

and here is the beautiful bride to be admiring her dress

While the girls were doing the makeup and so on, I concentrated on a few detail shots and also a few shots of the boys, Emily’s day and so on who also happened to be at the house getting ready.

Then it was time for Emily to get dresses,  HALF joking (honest) I suggest she get dressed in the garden since we had already shot the dress shot there, I was bowled over when she said okay, so there we were in the garden, the girls holding this beautiful dress up in the air for Emily to climb into

From here we jump forward a little, there are so many great photos to share with you and not enough time so its right off to the wedding itself, well a couple of grab shots from the wedding at least.

During a break in the ceremony, just before a reading, I noticed that the bride and groom where holding hands and smiling at each other, I got ready because the hairs on the back of my neck (yes no hair on my head but a few on my neck) I just had a feeling something special was going to happen – then Nick just gave Emily a tender little kiss on her hand, I think this is a beautiful photo – I just love the intimacy of this picture, I think it captures the love these guys share with each other so much.

cleddau bridge wedding photography

Helen my assistant was at the back of the room and while she was scanning for someone to grab, she saw this young man looking a little board and trying to watch her – Great capture and one of the reasons I love working with an assistant.

Then in the blink of an eye, the wedding was over and it was time for a quick few signing photos before we all headed outside.

Right after the wedding Emily, Nick, Helen and myself jumped into our car and we took off for the beach.  The week before when we met up, Nick and Emily decided they wanted to invest a little time in popping off to one of pembrokeshire’s amazing beaches for a few photos –  It was a tough decision and one that Emily still hadnt decided before the wedding – Whichever way the couple had decided we would have ended up with cracking photos – it was the perfect day for photographs.

But lucky for me, Emily decided that it was a good idea to head  off to the beach, Freshwater West Beach for some wedding photos. – Hope you like them !!!!!

Then Emily decided it was play time !

and then Nick came back in, took Emily in his arms, gave her a big kiss and cuddle

Then before we knew it, it was time to leave the beach and head back, naturally I got a few more shots as the happy couple made their way back up the beach

I am actually going to mix up timings just a little here, because after the beach it was straight back to the Cleddau Bridge Hotel then they pretty much went right into the wedding breakfast and speeches followed by a few more photos outside, but I want to end at the Cleddau Bridge so lets start off with a few pics taken after dinner.

Everyone !

and here Emily is spending a little quality time with one of the younger guests on the day, Nick better watch out, Emily loves children and it was so evident in the care and attention she gave them all day – beautiful to see and I am sure in years to come these will be special photos for these youngsters.

And one final one before we head inside for the speeches photos

Nick and Emilys Wedding at the Cleddau Bridge Hotel

In a little break from tradition Emily gave a speech which had the bridesmaids in tears and the guests in fits of laughter, whilst this was going on, like a Ninja I crept around the room snapping away to capture some of the emotion and fun of the day.

Emily and Nicks wedding photos

and while Nick was giving his speach, Emily and his new Mother In Law keep a close eye on him 🙂

Then after the speeches it was time for the cutting of the cake, I held back as we had taken one earlier in the day, and I wanted to mix it up a little – with around 110 people gathered  around its probably a good job

Once that was over, it was time for the night time to get into full swing, so the couple took to the dance floor for their first dance during which time I played with getting some different and unusual first dance photos – naturally I took the standard ones as well but I always like to try different things, to mix it up a little, and from time to time when you do you get a few shots like this……

Well at this stage we had been there for around 14 hours or so – we started to pack away our gear, Helen went to grab the car and when she came back in she mentioned it was a great sunset – I quickly dumped all the gear in the car and Helen ran off to find the bride and groom – we took them to over look the water so the sun would be behind them and managed to grab the last two photos of the day.

Congratulations to Emily and Nick on an amazing wedding day, we could easily have stayed all day it was one of those kinds of weddings – totally amazing !

Hope you have enjoed this look at the wedding of Emily and Nick.

Take care,

more soon

Swan Hotel Bibury, Cotswolds, Wedding Photography

**** UPDATE ****

I have now put the whole wedding of Shelley and Bassem on my blog,

You can view there Swan Hotel Wedding Photos by clicking here

http://www.davidpurslow.com/blog/2011/08/21/beautiful-wedding-swan-hotel-bibury/

Hey there,

Just about to head home and take it easy for the rest of the night, still catching up and recovering from my opperation last week !

a few weeks ago I have a fantastic wedding down in the Cotswolds, it was at The Swan Hotel in Bibury and its an amazing wedding venue.  My bride that day was the beautiful Shelley – you can see Shelley and Bassem engagement shoot photos here – http://www.davidpurslow.com/blog/2011/03/22/cotswolds_wedding_photography_eshoot/

anyway back to the wedding day itself, one of the things the couple wanted were some of my ‘Signature Style Images’ a modern mix of high fashion and dramatic bridal portraiture.  So with this in mind, remember when you see the photo, it was not too much effort for Shelley in her totally amazing wedding dress to hop up on a bridge over the river and just dangle there for me while I was on another bridge some 200 feet away.

Here is just one photo to tease you with, Shelley and Bassem’s wedding blog story will be coming in the next couple of weeks.

The Wedding of Niamh and James

Followed by a beautiful Wedding Reception at Killworth House Hotel

Hello there,  David here from David Purslow Photography

This weekend saw the wedding of a fabulous couple who I had the great pleasure of meeting and shooting the engagement of, Niamh and James.  Unfortunately due to a serious operation which I found out about only a couple of weeks before the couples big day, I could not be present.

I put out an SOS to my piers and mentors and within a few days the wedding was covered, after talking to Niamh and James and going over all the options I am very pleased to say the selected a fabulous photographer called John Mottershaw to first shoot the wedding on my behalf – John is a full time professional wedding photographer based in Sheffield, his website is http://www.johnmottershaw.com Working along side of John was going to be a second photographer (I always work with an assistant) but as luck would have it just 12 hours before the wedding, another family medical emergency popped up and John reached out to a fantastic network of photographers we are both members of (details in the post below this one) and within a few hours assisted the aid of Simon Revill from Simon Revill Photography, another full time professional wedding photographer based in Derbyshire.  Simons website is located at  http://www.simonrevill.com

So back to the big day, I was really looking forward to this wedding from the very first meeting I had had with Niamh and James, when they said they were getting married at Killworth House Hotel, actually the church around the corner but the wedding reception was being held there, I was excited.  Killworth House is a fantastic wedding venue, one of the most beautiful wedding reception locations in Leicestershire and one any photographer wants to shoot at.  The day after the wedding Simon sent me over a collection of edited photographs ready to show the client and pop on the blog.  Simon knew this was one of the weddings I very excited about, I love weddings and am excited about them all but the grounds and the venue make for stunning photos and combined with a stunningly beautiful bride and groom, you just get really carried away and cant wait to be shooting the wedding photos.  Simon also knew (since I posted on the International Professional Photographers Network Forum) that Niamh and James had sent me over a very special  thank you / get well card which my wife brought into the hospital and which I saw pretty much as soon as I woke up following my surgery.  So The next morning I recived a folder full of images, I have gone thru them and selected a few of my favorites to share with you.

From what I have seen in the photos, it looked like it was an amazing day, Niamh looked simply stunning and James looked like the cat that had all the cream, he really looks like a very proud man in the photos.  One of the the things I love about Simons work is the way he captures the emotion of the day through his images and its amongst other reasons I look up to him and his work so much.

I cant really tell you too much about the day, I may ask John or Simon to write me a full blog post once I get back to work full time however I know both of them are really busy with their own weddings and portraits.   Naturally I wanted to say a huge thanks to John and Simon for all their help, I also wanted to thanks Niamh and James for sticking with me, trusting that the photographers I would choose to cover their day would be up to the job and just being such nice people all round.
