Dumbleton Hall Wedding photography | Katie & Martin Engagement Shoot

Hey there,

Quick sneak peek today,  I just got back from an engagement session at the amazing Dumbleton Hall nr Tewkesbury in Worcestershire.  Katie and Martin are getting married at Dumbleton Hall later this year so we chose the venue as the perfect venue for the engagement shoot.  Half joking but half seriously Katie had let me know she was becoming a bit of a blog stalker and could not stop smiling at the thought of seeing her photos on the blog, so with this in mind, I quickly grabbed a few – although I have not looked them in detail yet and edited them quickly to pop up on the website.

We were very fortunate that the weather held for us,  so here you go

Taking Boudoir and Glamour Photography to a whole new level !

Dare you take the first step towards unlocking the super-sexy you? Boudoir photography offers sensual portraits that reveal your inner beauty. As you are pampered, treated, dressed and posed, you will look and feel great and that will shine through the resulting photographs.

The win-win is that he will think it’s a treat for him, but you know it will be a treat for you. Whenever the next bad hair day or moment of feeling low arrives, you will have a permanent reminder of the day that you were a beautiful temptress.

It seems that everyone is learning to love themselves these days. Programmes such as Gok Wan’s ‘How to Look Good Naked’ have encouraged ordinary women to accept their bodies for how they are including their imperfections. Women’s bodies in all their forms have been celebrated in art through the ages from Botticelli’s Birth of Venus to more modern artists such as Picasso and Jim Warren today and yet women still find it difficult to reveal their sexy self. Through boudoir photography, you can capture the moment forever and enjoy it again and again.

Looking sexy is in the eye of the beholder. Your partner loves you the way you are. A boudoir photography session can help you to see yourself through their eyes.

A Boudoir photo session isn’t just about being sexy, it’s about feeling comfortable with your femininity and creating images that have a beautiful and sensual quality to draw in the viewer.

Reasons to Treat Yourself to a Boudoir Photo Shoot

The reasons that women of all ages and shapes choose to book a boudoir photography session are as many as there are women, but here are a few:

  • You want to give the man of your dreams a gift that he can always appreciate and never forget. You might choose it as a wedding gift to him or an intimate gift that the two of you can enjoy together.
  • You need to boost your self esteem after a bad relationship – show the world what he’s missing and yourself just how beautiful you really are
  • Celebrating your birthday – age is just a number and there is beauty in every woman no matter what her age.
  • It is something that you have always wanted to do – life’s too short so go ahead and book it!
  • You need to find your inner sexy self after having children. Many men find post birth bodies more exciting – what better way to celebrate your life together?
  • Life is good and you look and feel fantastic. Have some gorgeous photos taken to remember this moment.

Dont just take our word for it, read this beautiful letter from Miss ‘A’ about her very own boudoir session

The beautiful Miss ‘A’ visited with us and after her shoot sent in the following AMAZING TESTIMONIAL !!!!!

worcestershire boudoir photography testimonial
Two years ago I was running my own, very small business and had the opportunity to take part in a topless calendar shoot to raise money for charity. The high I got from the actual shoot was amazing and lasted a few days. The experience was incredibly liberating but, unfortunately, the photo left me feeling rather disappointed and I don’t even have a copy of it I was that nonplussed.

Fast forward to the present day and the discovery of Mr David Purslow and his boudoir photography. I booked my date for the photo shoot and read through the detailed email which was sent through immediately after our phone conversation. I looked at the attached photos, read the shoot instructions, looked at the photos a bit more and started to feel very excited.

Before I knew it, the day had arrived and I made all my necessary preparations and packed my bag. The studio was very easy to find, in beautiful surroundings and David immediately made me feel at ease. I can’t admit to feeling nervous, it was definitely more a feeling of excitement and I just hoped that I would look as good as the other photos I had seen. After three children, my stomach is not the favourite part of my body, so I explained that I would prefer to avoid seeing that area in photos. We discussed what I was hoping to get from the shoot (as a single mum with little time to myself, I wanted to feel sexy and to get a ‘boost’ from the whole experience) and if I had any particular shots in mind.

Then the lovely Gemma arrived and did my hair and make-up and turned me into somebody I didn’t recognise but instantly loved! What a relaxing hour!

The shoot got under way and the time flew by. I could see the shots come up on the TV screen as they were being taken and, even without my glasses on, I was very happy with what I saw. Slowly the items of clothing came off and I felt so at ease that there was no embarrassment – and I’m usually the first person to go bright red!

That was last Tuesday. Yesterday I went to look at the photos and make my choice for my purchase (I actually felt more nervous about seeing the photos than I did about having them done!) To cut a long story short, I don’t think I’ve stopped smiling since seeing the first shot. I’m sat here smiling now just thinking about how good the whole experience has made me feel.

I chose to have a slideshow because of the nature of the photos and the fact that I have three young children in the house. I thought that it would be something I would keep for a private trip down memory lane every now and then. But. David made me look so good in the shots that I want to show it to the world! I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve watched it in the 24 hours since having the link emailed through. It has nearly made me forget that my ex exists! I’ve even shown it to my Mum!

In short, I love it and I’m very proud that I decided to do it. A boudoir shoot with David Purslow was just what the doctor ordered to make me feel sexy and alive again!

About our style of boudoir Photography

‘I discovered a secret some time ago: when a woman feels beautiful on the inside she looks amazing on the outside.’

Simple is best: the photographs focus on the subject which is YOU.

You might worry that this is not something that you have done before – but we create a calm, unhurried atmosphere that will relax you and enable you to enjoy the experience.

The aim is to produce elegant, tasteful photographs that look like you, only better than you have ever seen yourself before.

Choosing the Right Boudoir Session for You

There are three main types of Boudoir photography session:

Studio Session(most popular with our clients)

The photographs are taken at the studio in Worcestershire. The images produced are stunning magazine quality images in the style of glamour and pin-up photography rather than traditional boudoir.

Home Shoot

It is possible to use your own home for the shoot which will give your photos that personal touch.

Boutique Hotels

If you prefer a different setting, then we are expert at finding hidden gems when it comes to boutique hotels and bed and breakfast establishments for a boudoir shoot. We can find hotels which offer charm, sophistication and character and the reason for the room booking will be discussed with the owners before the shoot.

Your images and Privacy Guaranteed

We would like to thank the clients who have given us their kind permission to republish the images on this page and the online gallery.

Your images are completely secure and would NEVER be published or shown to others without permission. The boudoir shoots are 100% private and confidential. Once your order is complete, a back-up is made which is locked in a fire safe for one year after which time they are destroyed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I’d like to talk this through, to help me decide whether I want to go ahead – is this possible?

Of course! Everyone has different thoughts and feelings about Boudoir photography and how it would work for them.

Feel free to email me at boudoir@davidpurslow.com or give me a call on 01299 253844 or 0759 007 6666. Whenever a booking is made, I always talk it through with the client before the session anyway, to get a good idea of their personality, how they see themselves and what kind of images they are after.

Q. I have never done anything like this before so can I bring along a friend?

You are welcome to bring a friend with you for support. You can both book a session at the same time if you wish.

Q. How is this different from ‘glamour’ photography?

A Boudoir photo session isn’t just about being sexy, it’s about feeling comfortable with your femininity and experimenting with different styles, such as ‘fifties pin-up’ or ‘Hollywood siren’. Whether as a treat for a loved one or a confidence boost for yourself, a Boudoir photo session is good fun, and the end results are stunning.

Q. What should I bring to the shoot?

A. You can never bring too much but you can bring too little – if in doubt, include it and we will help you choose the right items from the selection. High heels show your legs off beautifully and jewellery adds a special sparkle. You might expect to bring sexy lingerie but what about one of his shirts? If he is a man in uniform then bring his jacket or hat. Off the shoulder tactile jumpers, revealing tops, your favourite dress, even great fitting denim jeans will look great.

Q. Who will be at the photo session?

I take the pictures myself, and I use a female hair and makeup stylist unless you decide to do your own hair and makeup.
.

west midlands boudoir photographer

.Q. Will you air brush my photos?

We will use ALL the skills and tools at our disposal to make sure your images look their very best but they will still look like you. If you have a spot or mark that you would like removed or lightened, or your teeth whitened slightly then we will be happy to oblige. It is possible that the images can be given a good makeover, tweaked and altered, and even air brushed but only to improve on an already great result. We will make you look amazing with great lighting, your gorgeous spirit and our fantastic photography skills and you will be delighted with the results.

Q. Are the photos only done in a studio? Or can I have them taken at my home?

It’s up to you whether you come to my studio near Hartlebury, Worcestershire, or whether we set up the shoot in your own home or another venue of your choosin

Q. How far in advance should I book? Is there a deposit and when do I pay?

There is a forward diary of up to six months for boudoir photography booking. If you would like a boudoir session as part of your wedding photography then reservations can be taken up to 18 months alongside the wedding booking. To secure the date a booking fee of £50.00 is payable which will be taken off the final total. The balance is due any time up to the start of the session and I accept bank transfers, cheques or cash.

Q. Will I have full control of the pictures?

Yes, your Boudoir images will be totally secure and we never use them without your permission. All re-touching and editing is done in our studio, so the pictures do not go anywhere else. It’s always great when a client lets us show their pictures in our online portfolio because it gives others a good idea of what can be achieved

Q. How should I prepare for my Boudoir photo session?

One of the best things you can do is to get a good night’s sleep, so that you are looking and feeling fresh on the day. You could also consider getting a manicure and perhaps a cut and colour, but be very careful with tanning products because streaky tan marks are very difficult to airbrush. The best clothes to wear on the day are loose fitting, so as to avoid pinch marks on the skin.

What happens when your wedding photographer is ill ?

What happens if your wedding photographer cant show up ?

Hello there, this is a bit of a strange post – but its a very important one.

One question that you hear time and time again as a full time wedding photographer is what happens if you get ill or cant make the wedding ?  What happens if this happens the night before a wedding ?  Well read this and and be inspired !!!!!!

If you read THIS post (the one previous to this one) you will see that recently I was diagnosed with a very serious condition that needed surgery pretty much right away – well after a good few hours of Keyhole surgery I am well on the way to making a full recovery and have started back to work albeit with light duties for the next couple of weeks.

I am a full time wedding and portrait photographer, this is my only job so if I dont shoot weddings I dont get paid and my family dont eat – but this also has the benefit that I choose to only photograph 30 weddings a year – Once I hit my limit of 30 weddings I stop taking any more bookings.  This is not that uncommon in the professional photography arena.  This actually worked out GREAT for me in two ways and as the story unfolds you will see why.

Without blowing my own trumpet, I am pretty good at what I do and am in quite a bit of demand – most of my photography friends and piers are in pretty much the same boat – and nearly all of them are members of a fantastic network of international professional photographers called

The International Professional Photographers’ Network

Members of IPPN display this badge with pride on their websites.

International Professional Photographers’ Network

As a member you join a small select group of professional photographers from all over the world but with the majority of its members based in the UK its a great place to hang out.  We have a private members forum where we can ask for help and advice, where we share great learning experiences and new trends in the industry with each other.  One of the main features is the SOS board where you can post up asking for help.

The second I knew what was going on and that I needed a serious operation I posted an SOS and received offers of help from some of the top photographers in the UK.  Within hours  all the weddings I had booked over the 3 – 4 weeks I would be off work for were covered and I started to contact my brides and grooms with the information – Naturally I offered them a choice of photographers or a full refund if for what ever reason they wanted to switch to another photographer.

This weekend (just gone) was the first of these weddings and unfortunately the evening before this wedding, the 2nd shooter (the assistant photographer) had a family emergency of her own and informed John – John Mottershaw (the lead photographer who was standing in for me at this wedding) – http://www.johnmottershaw.com and he put up another SOS with less than 12 hours to go – Well within 3 hours and less than 12 hours before the wedding the assistant photographers position was filled.

The wedding of Niamh and James took place in Leciestershire this past Saturday (I will post up pictures from this in the next post)  The two photographers who attended this wedding are actually two of my mentors and photographers who I look up to and whos work I feel is far superior to my own.

They were John Mottershaw from  http://www.johnmottershaw.com and Simon Revill -  http://www.simonrevill.com/ -  who also happens to be the founder of the IPPN.   Between the two photographers at their wedding the couple actually received coverage that far exceeded what they would have had with me shooting it – Both John and Simon are  full time professional photographers in their own  rights and between them have over 50 years of experience in the wedding photography industry.  John is from generations of photographers and basically has been taking photos since he was pretty much able to life his finger and press a shutter.  If you had to pay their respective fee’s the couple would have to over double their photography budget.

This August I only happen to have 3 weddings, one was the week before the surgery and two were following it – on paper I have 5 other Friday or Saturdays available for weddings in August yet I am fully booked as I have reached my 30 weddings of 2011.  Its because of this that I am available to jump in and help out if needed, it so happened that both Simon and John were free this weekend although I believe that both of them had weddings the Friday before.  They are also pretty much fully booked but have spaces free where they can help out other photographers in their hour of need.

Naturally I cant thank John and Simon enough but will be trying to over the coming days, weeks and months.

So if your a bride looking at photographers ask them about their emergency contingencies and ask what would happen if they happened to break their leg the night before you wedding – it can and does happen – while your at it ask them if they are members of  The International Professional Photographers’ Network

The IPPN does have a Directory of some of its members (its a voluntary directory so some members have not yet got around to filling it in)  but  why not start your search for a professional wedding photographer in your area by visiting The International Professionals Photographers Network Directory.

If our a professional wedding photographer who would like to be able to offer your couples total piece of mind and would be interested in joining a small but ever growing network of like minded professionals all looking out to help each other grown and develop as photographers then pop along and take a look at with the IPPN has to offer – I should point out however that we (I have nothing to do with the administration or management side) do not just accept any application and members are checked out and voted upon by the leadership team (of which I have nothing to do with) – You can find out all about the IPPN by visiting the main website at http://www.ippn.co.uk/

In the coming weeks several other brides will be having the likes of Simon and John turn up to cover my weddings and provide them with amazing and outstanding photography and professionalism let alone a lifetime of amazing memories.

So special thanks for the time being to

John Mottershaw – Sheffield Wedding Photographer

and

Simon Revill – Derbyshire Wedding Photographer

and all of the members of

The International Professional Photographers’ Networkhttp://www.ippn.co.uk/

Ciao

Vintage Wedding Photography

Vintage Looking Wedding Photographs

Hello there, something a little different from me today.

Every few years something ‘new’ comes along, a style you may call it, a craze or just something that everyone loves and wants.  Several years ago it was what photographers call Spot Colour which is when you take a colour photograph and make it black and white.  Then you paint back parts of the photo in colour leaving a black and white image with just hints of colour.

Well 2010 saw a new trend taking off in leaps and bounds – The new look everyone is talking about is the Vintage Look.  This is where you using various Photoshop / Lightroom (the digital dark room photographers work in) tools and trick otherwise known as Actions and Presets – and using these actions & presets  you turn the photo into something more vintage looking.

There is no doubt that Vintage Wedding Photography is in high demand and vintage looking wedding photos have a dream like quality to them.

In the following examples below I show a before and after, the original image is exactly as taken and has not been touched up in Photoshop – The vintage wedding photo version has been processed in both Lightroom and then Photoshop to create the final Vintage look.

The vintage wedding look

One of the big advantages of modern digital wedding photography is the ability to change the look of a photograph relatively quickly and we can add the vintage look to any, all or none of the photos we take at a wedding.

Vintage wedding photography (actually its a look rather than a style) is available at the push of a button so if you are interested in having any of your photos processed this way be sure to let us know.  If you are thinking of having a Vintage themed style wedding then naturally the look of vintage wedding photos would fit you wedding perfectly.

Mid Week and Last Minute bookings…..

Hello there,

Earlier today I was talking to fellow professional wedding photographer Tim Driver – http://www.driverphotography.co.uk Tim is fabulous wedding photographer based in Norfolk and was returning from a mid week wedding.   We talk all the time and meet up whenever possible.  Over the past week or so our website has been given a bit of a makeover, if your a regular visitor you will know all about that.  I had asked Tim to give the site a once over and let me know what he thought.  He pointed out that I was lacking a Mid-Week wedding photography special offer or a small wedding, last minute booking special offer.

So this is what we have come up with.

Beautiful Wedding Photography

Practice makes perfect  – A Wedding Photographers Day off……

Every now and then you get to shoot some fantastic wedding images, I am not talking about great ‘wedding photos’ – thats what the bride and groom want but once in a while a couple will come along and will let you take a couple of hours in their wedding day to take them off and shoot some really dramatic shots – Sometimes it even happens on the day after the wedding or weeks or months later.

So to make your up to the task you need to practice these skills and thats where days like last Tuesday come in.   It was not a workshop and it was a very exclusive little group – 10 of us in total. We had exclusive use of Newstead Abbey nr Nottingham, he also arranged for seven models and an amazing makeup artist (who also models) and one of his good friends is  a wedding dress designer who came along with a stunning collection of gowns.

The idea was simple – we took the models off either a bride by herself or a bride and groom and spent an hour shooting whatever we wanted to shoot.  Some of the other photographers brought along picnics or parasol’s  etc, etc, etc.  I just wanted to practice shooting ‘Stunning Wall Portraits’  I also wanted to shoot directly into the sun and see if I could over power it using little Nikon speedlight flashe’s that I carry.  Another thing I wanted to do was play with lighting Gel’s – this is where you change the colour of your flash to ‘Tungsten’ and put the camera into a tungsten setting, this turns daylight very blue as you will see.

So with my very good friend Tim Driver from Driver Photographyhttp://www.driverphotography.co.uk we set off and spent 6 hours shooting lots of photos just for our own portfolio’s

Below are a few of my favorites from the day – I hope you like

I would love more brides and grooms to set aside an hour or so in the day just for Bridal Portraits – as you can see the results could be STUNNING.

In this photo the blue light coming thru the windows is just daylight – its colour is changed by the use of a CTS (colour temperature straw) gel on the flash

I am using the same technique here but only using a 1/2 CTS gel and have dialed in a WB 1/2 way between Tungsten and daylight

Hello there,

Just playing with a couple of pictures from the wedding of Kate and Mark – I shot this one during the singing as its a 7 photo image – its a composite of 7 photos from almost black to totally white – then the computer makes an images that pulls date from each layer – its called HDR – which stands for High Dynamic Range.

Wedding Photography Engagement Session

An Engagement Shoot

Sara & Karl at Freshwater East, Pembrokeshire, West Wales

Hey guys, David Purslow here from www.davidpurslow.com – Wedding and Portrait photographer covering the whole of the UK.

About a month ago (I am a little behind as its full on wedding season at the moment) I had the great pleasure of meeting up with Sara and Karl for their pre wedding engagement shoot.  We arranged to meet at Freshwater East, a stunning photo location on the west coast of Wales.

The whole shoot lasted around an hour but we CRANKED out some seriously good photos (at least in my humble opinion)

The purpose of the shoot was to put together a guest signing book (If you have not seen one of these then check out my albums page by clicking here)

Below is a selection of some of the pages from the shoot.

The beach was not as empty as it looks, I airbrushed a lot of people and dogs off the beach – I love the feel of Sara and Karl’s engagement album it could easily be any beach in the world.

Hope you like,
