Following on from my last blog post

Hello there, in my last blog post I posted an email from a lady who contacted me after being let down by her photographer. – I ranted a little but for good reason as I felt that booking a photographer is a very important part of the day.

Yesterday I head this on the radio and found the link today.

READ THIS STORY ABOUT COUPLE SUING THEIR PHOTOGRAPHER

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/6263595/Couple-sue-wedding-photographer.html

I will say it again, on my office wall I have this quote printed out and wish I had the balls to have this as the front page of my website – so many people judge the quality of the photographer by the whats included in the price and it seems the more included (lower price) the better value the photographer is ??????

Here is the quote

John Ruskin, 1819-1900 Author, Influential Critic, Philospher

“It’s unwise to pay too much, but it’s unwise to pay too little.
When you pay too much you lose a little money, that is all.
When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything,
because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing you bought it to do.
The common law of business prohibits paying a little and getting a lot – it can’t be done.
If you deal with the lowest bidder, it’s well to add something for the risk you run.
And if you do that, you will have enough to pay for something better.”

John Ruskin.

Hello and welcome!

Welcome to David Purslow Photography.  I am a full time wedding photographer, based just outside of Birmingham in the West Midlands.  It’s the perfect location as we regularly photograph weddings in Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, The Cotswolds, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire as well as The West Midlands, Bristol,London and my beloved Pembrokeshire. I work alongside my  long time assistant and second photographer  Helen. Our wedding photography takes us all over the UK and even to Ireland from time to time.

Our speciality is documentary wedding photography, which is the art of  capturing and telling the story of your wedding day through beautiful reportage photos.  We also love to create stunning and dramatic images to feature in your wedding album or to hang on your walls.

Our blog features  hundreds of photos from recent weddings, engagement shoots,  aftershoot sessions, trash the dress photo shoots and so on,  you will find a link to it below this selection of 100 of my favorite recent wedding photos.

I feel sorry for this bride and groom……….

Hello there, dp here from www.davidpurslow.com – this is my first rant on the blog because I really feel for this couple who have been let down with only 4 days to go till there wedding.

This morning (29th September 2009) I reveived the following email

Could you please let me know if you are available to photograph my son & his fiances wedding on the 3.10.09 in Solva and then St Davids as we have just been notified this evening by his photographer that she is unable to attend due to illness. Would you also let me have a tariff as the price we were paying was £860 which included the items below and we would like to know if you could match the original offer.

We are looking for a paparazzi style storybook album we do not necessarily need anyone to stay until 11.30pm but for at least the 1st dance.

The package you are talking about is the one where I stay all day + evening until 11:30pm
You “ll get A LOT of photographs on a CD. (Around 350 in high resolution.)
+ a luxury printed album 42 pages + another album with the blackboard message and 2 musical slideshow.
The cost of this package is £860.
As well as the album you are untitled to a musical slideshows who can be burn easily for friends and family.
Yours faithfully
xxxxxxx
(I have omitted the photographers name as a professional courtesy)

many thanks

This is not the first one of this type of email  I have had this year, in fact its the third.  I managed to jump in and help out one bride and groom but on this occasion and the other occasion I was already booked.

On my wall in the office I have a printed quote from John Ruskin, the quote was written sometime in the 1800’s and is one of the wisest things I have ever read.  It seems to be more true today than at any time in the past.

Todays wedding photography market is saturated with Weekend Wedding Photographers  (people who have a full time job and do weddings as a way of making some extra income) These guys generally dont use the latest professional equipment or have sufficient backup equipment should something drastic happen (I DO).  A lot dont work with assistants or associate photographers (I DO) who would be able to cover an emergency should the need arise.  I am also guessing they dont carry public liability insurance or professional indemnity insurance (I DO) and as it seems a lot letting people down at the very last minute (I DONT) – This is exactly what the quote below refers to.

In my humble opinion anyone who is offering you full day coverage, disk of images and an album as the very minimum for under £1000.00 is

a.  Loosing Money (and may not be around to service you when your wedding come around)
b.  Not offering a quality product or using equipment that gives you the very best images etc.
c.  Not a full time professional and thus may not have the necessary public liability coverage many venues request and insurances for your piece of mind.
d.  Leaves you very little come back in the event they ‘cant make it because of illness’ etc.

Sorry to have to rant this morning but ‘Weekend Wedding Photographers’ seem to becoming a trend and letting the clients down seems to be part of this trend.

Take care,   I know professional wedding photography can seem expensive but spend your money wisely and remember :-

THE ONLY LASTING MEMORY OF YOUR WEDDING DAY WILL BE YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHS !

Ciao for now

West Wales Wedding Photographer Testimonial :-)

Hey everyone dp here from www.davidpurslow.com

I have been sitting here all day catching up on an amazing August – I was so busy in August that it has put me a little behind but I am catching up quickly !

Anyway I just wanted to share with you a testimonial that I received from the wedding of Martin and Kayleigh.  It really gives me a boost when I get comments from people like this.

Here is what they had to say.

Hi David,

just wanted to say a huge thank you for doing a fantastic job on our photos, you really took in what we said we wanted and you done us some amazing photos that i no in 10 and 20 years time we’ll look back through and remeber our day perfectly.

And wow never knew me and martin could look so good in a photo, as you know were not big fans of them. But you made us feel really relaxed, you were more like a guest than a photographer and we really cant thank you enough.

You can see the pics from their wedding by clicking here

THANKS GUYS

Pembrokeshire Family Portraits – Fun on the farm !

Hello there, dp here from www.davidpurslow.com – I am a wedding and lifestyle portrait photographer covering south wales and west wales.

Today I had a GREAT fun day – I spent the morning on a farm and it was good fun, I had a picnic supplied by the farmers wife got to lay down in a field full of cows and sheep and even   got hoisted high in the air on some monster piece of farm equipment so I could take pictures pointing down onto a sleeping baby – and I have the nerve to call this work 🙂

There are a dozen photos in this little preview – I shot around 130 pictures today and have managed to bring that number down to around 100 for the family to see.

So as said, there are a dozen previews here
