Sneak Peek Mike and Caroline – Greek Wedding

What a Fab Weekend, What a Fab Wedding

Mike & Caroline – A Greek Wedding in Wales

Sneak Peek Only !

Hey guys, this weekend I had the fantastic pleasure of photographing the wedding of Mike and Caroline.  I met these guys sometime last year and we just clicked – the wedding sounded like it would be fun but OH MY GOD what an amazing day Helen and I had – I can honestly say this was my favorite wedding for a long long time.

There is no rhyme or reason for the following photos – they were actually picked to show a very good friend of mine and amazing wedding photographer in his own right, Tim Driver a wedding photographer in Suffolk.  The reason for sharing with Tim is that we always have a post wedding analysis of each of our wedding to see what we did right, what we learned and what could we do to improve next time to make the whole thing better for our clients.

Anyway back to the photos.  As you may or may not know (I had posted about Mike sometime last year after he sent me some Amazing Tee Shirts that he had embroidered with my logo) Mikes runs a business is simply called Mike the Biz http://www.mikethebiz.co.uk/ and it really is  your one-stop shop for printed or embroidered promotional garments.   Mike’s  family heritage is Greek so the wedding had very strong Greek influences.  The wedding was taking place at Castell Malgwyn Hotelhttp://www.castellmalgwyn.co.uk which is a grand old country home and a fantastic wedding reception venue and makes for amazing wedding photos imho.

In the living room shortly after I arrived I found Nick (hope its spent right) or as I called him all night in a affectionate way – Nick the Greek.  You will see lots of Nick photos later as he was a very important part of the day but when Helen and I had finished taking our establishing shots Nick was just playing a few notes on….. well I dont know what its called yet – I am sure Steven will let me know later in the day 🙂

A term that was bounded around for a lot of the day was The Greek Mafia – I think this (I hope) referred to the gathering of guys at the wedding all of whom looked so distinguished and well polished.  While Nick the Greek was doing his stuff they sat around and enjoyed the music – here is a shot of one of the gentlemen.

And here is a shot of Mike himself with his best man James

Why was it fun ?  Well there at things that take place at Greek Weddings like the blessing ceremony that I dont normally see – Anytime there is something new that I have not really seen before means I have to work that little bit harder as I dont know what is gonig to happen but I have to anticipate to make sure I get the shot’s – I am so please with the next two photos because of the importance this little part of the day actually played  – being able to capture the details like this means great memories for my clients in the years to come.  Mike’s mum is preparing the incense for the blessing – its quite a special moment so  I could not really move around as I didn’t want to interfere with the moment.

greek wedding blessing

and this is one of my favorite shots (that I have seen so far) – its a shot of Mike just getting ready for the blessing to take place – in this shot I was just setting up my light so it was very much a candid moment.  I had asked Mike to sit in the chair (which the blessing would take place around) and took a test shot – I think it captured the moment perfectly and puts a big smile on my face.

This next shot was taking during the actual blessing – I am sure this young lady wont be too thrilled with the angle I captured her but its all about the shot and the moment and since she is Mike’s sister I am sure she will forgive me – she was a blast all night long especially during the Greek Dancing.

Soon after the blessing I had to run outside to grab shots of Caroline arriving.  I grabbed this shot in the back of a 76 year old Rolls Royce and has Caroline, her brother and daughter all with that pre wedding smile the bridal party gets just minutes before they turn up to the wedding

and here Carolines Brother is giving her away at the start of the wedding ceremony

and during the service I captured this moment, I love the tenderness with which Caroline is placing the ring on Mike’s finger

As you can see from the signing of the register the whole day was fun filled !

Well as I said before this is just a sneak peek – there will be lots more and the blog story of what I hear referred to many times that night as My big fat Greek Wedding but to leave you with today here are a few taken on the dance floor

I think you can see just how much fun this whole day was – I want to congratulate Caroline and Mike on an amazing day and with them all the best.  Thanks for choosing me to share your day with.

Sami & Matt’s Engagment Shoot

Sami & Matt’s Engagement Session

A Fun Family Day at the Beach !

Hi there guys, dp here from David Purslow Photography – if you post via a search engine then can I highly recommend you visit my wedding photography website located at www.davidpurslow.com

A little while back I had the pleasure of shooting (in the nicest possible way) Sami and Matt’s engagement session – I am sure Sami will jump up and down when she reads that her wedding is very fast approaching.    Sami and Matt seem to have booked me as their wedding photographer years ago, I am not sure if it was in 2009 or 2008 but it was a very long time indeed.  The reason I say this is when they booked me I was not offering signing books……

Whats a signing book – well its a beautiful wedding album that is printed on fine art paper that you can write on, the basic idea is you put together a collection of nice romantic photos from your engagement session into a presentation with lots of white space around the pages and then people can write you a message in the white space.

I have one I use as a demo album and I get brides who’s weddings I have shot to write in them or couples who have booked me to pop a few words in there as to why they picked me to be their wedding photographer.  In this picture you can see what Sami and Matt wrote in my book after their engagement session.

If you want to see more pictures of my album styles just click on the photo above !

So back to Sami & Matts engagement session.

Well as I was saying I shot their engagement session and their wedding is fast approaching.  We finalized the signing book album design and I wanted to share it with you.

Signing books make for a GREAT talking piece but more than that they make for a FANTASTIC keep sake and a totally unique memory of your wedding day.  Just imagine lots of pages filled with comments from all your friends, family and loved ones.

So here it is – I cant show you the cover as currently its somewhere over the Atlantic on its way over to  – bet Sami is jumping up and down again 🙂

*** How to use the Slide show ***

  1. Click the play button – then a little menu pops up at the bottom of the slide show
  2. If you do nothing the show will start in about  a second or so – but for the full effect – at any time, just put your mouse over the slide show and……
  3. Click the icon second from the right hand side to view in FULL SCREEN MODE !!!!
  4. Pressing escape will bring you right back down to earth

….

I hope you enjoyed.

I recently moved to the West Midlands area and now provide wedding photography for Birmingham, Worcester, Solihull, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Kidderminster and pretty much anywhere in the West Midlands.

I still shoot wedding in Pembrokeshire, West Wales and dont charge any extra for traveling !

Lee & Nia’s Engagement Shoot

Engagement Photography Shoot

Lee & Nia in Dublin, Ireland

Hello there, dp here – I have just taken a quick 10 minutes to choose a few of my favorites from the photo session I had yesterday.  In a few weeks time I am shooting the wedding of Nia and Lee, a smashing couple from Ireland.  When Nia originally booked me I was living and based out of Pembrokeshire in West Wales so jumped at the chance of doing an engagement shoot in Ireland – just a 3 hour ride on the ferry from my house.

Since then as you know (if your a regular visitor)  I am now based just outside of Worcester in the West Midlands and class myself as a Birmingham Wedding Photographer so had to decide if I was going to drive to Pembrokeshire and catch the ferry or fly – I decided to fly.  I had a quick look into flying from Birmingham and found that Air Lingus fly out of BHX – The cost of the ticket (return trip) was less than what it would have cost me to drive to Pembrokeshire and back let alone the cost of the ferry.  Air Lingus were amazing (the first but not the last time I use them) – the flight time was 40 minutes and I arrived in Dublin and back at Birmingham Airport bang on time – 10/10 for Air Lingus.

Anyway so I arrived in Dublin and was met by a very happy looking Nia as Lee was waiting outside in the car to stop it being towed away 🙂  after a big hug we set off to our first location.  I always let couples know that engagement shoots are a great way to get to know each other and it worked out just like that this trip, it will make for much better wedding photos as we talked about the wedding most of the day.  I also know the guys now so they are so much more relaxed  🙂  I also point out that the first hour of the shoot is more a getting used to each other and that I dont expect many good shots as its just about getting used to each other as I said.

So after the first 10 minutes we pull this shot of the camera

engagement photoshoot in dublin Ireland

Naturally I was pretty pleased.  This shot took about 3 or 4 minutes to get right as there are 2 off camera lights lighting the guys, Lee the good sport he is had to remove his outer top as it was casting a shadow on his face but did so without any complaints what so ever.  This was pretty much the tone for the whole day, Nia and Lee trusted me to do what I do best, went with the flow and would jump out into traffic and kiss and cuddle if I asked (which I did 🙂 and never questioned me once.

I am only going to post a few pics in the sneak peek today as I want to keep a few secrets for the album – Oh, I forgot to say – the purpose of the shoot was to produce an engagement album for the wedding which will be used as a signing book – to see an example of this visit my Storybook wedding albums page on my wedding photography website.

I am guessing we walked for MILES yesterday 5 – 7 is my guess but the little fat boy (thats me) did good and kept up.

I don’t plan much of a shoot before hand for engagement shoots because they are led pretty much by what happens on the day.  At one point we were walking and talking around the lake when I spotted a clearing in the trees and as the light was coming in from behind the couple it made for a fabulous looking photo – this is the kind of spontaneous shots that just happen when you walk around and let the day just unfold.

dublin engagement shoot

I like Engagement shoots to be all about the couple and about love and I was very happy to see that these guys are very much in love and didnt mind showing it off at all – We had a bit of an audience for the next shot and they seemed intrigued that I would be lying on the floor to take the photo, the ground was not that wet !

wedding photographer shooting engagement shots

This shot was quickly followed by this nice little romantic shot

Because the grounds of the the location were were shooting was open to the public there were times and places that people would be in the shots in the background, I have always found the easiest way of dealing with this to be nice and just ask them to move 🙂 – But do it with a smile on your face – well the water fall shot (not the big waterfall shots) there were a lot of poeple around so I asked them to move and quickly snapped this picture.  After this I got the group of friends together and using their camera took a few pictures of the whole group – normally someone has to be missed off the shot – this made them very happy and they totally forgot about being asked to move – simples !

birmingham wedding photography

So after we finished our first session, we had a break and went into Dublin itself – OOOOPS we hadnt planned on the Rugby match – Dublin was heaving !!!! – We stopped for a bite to eat which I had planned on being my treat but Nia and Lee would not hear of it (Irish Hospitality) and naturally I had to have a glass of the black stuff – OH IT WAS SO GOOD.  After lunch we shot a few more shots around Dublin itself but with the crowds and having to get back to the airport we were pretty limited as to what we could come up with, we still got some amazing shots however such as this one !

wedding photography dublin ireland

All in all a FANTASTIC day was had by all – Lee and Nia were GREAT FUN and I hope had a good day, we got some amazing photos, and I even managed to chill out on my flight back home although it was a lady pilot and a lady co pilot !

Hope you like the sneak peek of my flying visit to Dublin.

More soon,

ciao

Getting Married at the Elms Hotel

Ben and Zena Getting Married at The Elms Hotel

.
PLEASE NOTE WE HAVE ALSO ADDED A REVIEW OF THE ELMS HOTEL TO OUR WORCESTERSHIRE WEDDING VENUES GUIDE

click ->   GETTING MARRIED AT THE ELMS HOTEL to visit the review

Wow how the time has flown by.  This is 100% true, Zena and Ben are good friends our ours and I was honored and delighted when Zena asked me to be her wedding photographer.  Considering all the great wedding photographers in Worcestershire who cover weddings in Stourport, Kidderminster and Great Whitley you can understand way I was so excited.

The wedding was taking place at the beautiful Elms Hotel in Abberley in Worcestershire – just outside of Stourport on Severn. – Whats funny is that at the time I was living and working in west wales.

Nikki could not come with me unfortunately due to Joshua being sick and that was a real shame.  So I drove up the night before and stayed at my sisters house the night before to be nice and fresh for Zena & Bens big day.

Well the wedding was fantastic – if your planning on getting married at The Elms its a beautiful Worcestershire wedding venue and makes for a photographers dream – Ben and Zena had arranged for me to say at the hotel the night of the wedding as it was going to be a really long one – I started at around 8am and finished just before 11 pm after the fireworks.

Why is this post funny to me – well for many reasons.

Zena and Ben’s wedding was actually the very first wedding I posted on my blog – in fact it was the very first blog post ever by me ! and its back again now that I am a Worcestershire wedding photographer and updating my website.

Another reason is that now I am living in Hartlebury just outside of Kidderminster & Worcester  in Worcestershire, this year I am travelling down to West Wales for over 20 weddings.

I do cover weddings all over the UK however as a West Midlands wedding photographer who lives in Worcestershire I am hoping that couples getting married in 2011 and 2012  who are looking for a reportage wedding photographer stumble across my site.  Now that I am based in Worcestershire over the next year or so I only have a few weddings up this way and all the rest down in West Wales.  – I am hoping to book a lot more weddings at The Elms Hotel as it really is a pretty venue and a great place to take photos of so if your planning on getting married at The Emls visit my Worcestershire wedding photography page.

If you follow me on a regular basis you will know I am currently working on my blog so I wanted to test out the new gallery feature of the site and cold think of no better wedding to showcase than Ben and Zena.

Since this is new to me, for some reason the last photo in the album has become the first photo in the gallery – DUH – I will keep working on it.

Anyway I hope you like the new way of showing off a collection of images

Here is is, The wedding of Ben and Zena at the Elms Hotel, Abberley, Worcester – actually its the wedding photos from the The Elms 🙂

Enjoy.

Hummm there still seems to be a bit of an issue with the gallery – I am working on it !

Dublin Engagement Session :-)

Hello there boys and girls,

I woke up all excited today as tomorrow I am flying to Dublin in Ireland for an engagement session with Nia and Lee, a couple whos wedding I will be shooting in a little over a months time.

The guys are actually getting married over here in the UK however they live in Ireland so I jumped at the chance to visit them for the engagement shoot and I am sure since its Ireland there may be a glass or two of the black stuff consumed at the end of the session.

Well I better run, I have cameras to charge, lenses to clean an  memory cards to format before packing my bag ready for my flight over first thing tomorrow morning.

I am also excited about meeting Nia and Lee – As with many of my clients I have not yet met them, they booked me right of the internet which is happening more and more these days with peoples busy lives.

The engagement sessions are a great way to get to know each other, find out what they like and what they want for their wedding photography.

So the question I am left wondering is

Does this make me an International Wedding Photographer ?

Strange how you mind thinks before your first cup of coffee

Okay more soon,

Ciao
