A Hurst House Wedding

Photography by David Purslow

The Wedding of Fiona and Whyndam

A couple of weeks ago I had the great pleasure of photographing the wedding of Fiona and Whyndam. The wedding was at the magnificent Hurst House in Pembrokeshire and although it was a bit of a winter wedding the weather was amazing.

Fiona looked amazing in a beautiful Jenny Packham wedding dress (one of my favorite designers) and Wyndham looked as please as punch.

Just before the first dance we ran the slideshow (if we are at your wedding all day we do a slideshow in the evening) an Fiona stood next to Helen and myself.  I have never known a bride cry her eyes out so much to her wedding phtoos.  It humbled us.

Below is the sneak peek directors cut of the wedding photos – more in the next few days.

I hope you enjoy them

Very cool images David. They must be pleased as punch with the results. The picture frame is such a good idea.

Pushing the envelope – The Nikon D3

Hello there,

David here, this one is slightly different, this post has nothing to do with wedding photography other than the event I shot was at one of my favorite Pembrokeshire wedding venues – The Plas Hyfryd Hotel in Narberth, Pembrokeshire, West Wales.

The event was a charity event for Noah’s Ark Appeal which is a charity aimed at helping build, equip and further maintain children’s hospitals in Wales.

Special guest for the night was Max Boyce – A Welsh legend  Following on from a fantastic Champagne reception and a magnificent 5 course meal Max entertained the collected guests for around 1/2 an hour.  I have to tell you I laughed my socks off – he was very very funny.

During Max’s time on stage I grabbed some photos, naturally I did not want to use flash to disturb his performance or the enjoyment of the guests.  The room was very dark with only a few lights on and behind Max was the disco setup for the evening – The DJ stand has lights on so to make things harder for me, Max was back lit (the main source of light was behind him)

Using a Nikon D3 camera, I shot around 40 photos of Max on stage, I used an ISO of 6400 and an aperture of 2.8 – This gave me a shutter speed of……wait for it……. only 1/20th of a second and I had to shoot it hand held as I could not use a tripod / mono-pod.

The following is one of the shots taken during this, the full size file has a little noise on it but is TOTALLY usable – I was amazed myself.  I have been shooting with D3’s for almost 18 months now and they still continue to amaze me.

Max Boyce - Welsh Entertainer

Earlier in the evening Max posed for a photo with Mrs P, my beautiful wife who came with me for the event.  It was kind of a special day as this was the first time we had left our two children overnight together.  The  hotel had kindly provided us with a room since we donated our time to the charity.  We had a great time away but I think Mrs P was glad to get back to see Joshua and Soukie.

Vintage Wedding Photography

Vintage Looking Wedding Photographs

Hello there, something a little different from me today.

Every few years something ‘new’ comes along, a style you may call it, a craze or just something that everyone loves and wants.  Several years ago it was what photographers call Spot Colour which is when you take a colour photograph and make it black and white.  Then you paint back parts of the photo in colour leaving a black and white image with just hints of colour.

Well 2010 saw a new trend taking off in leaps and bounds – The new look everyone is talking about is the Vintage Look.  This is where you using various Photoshop / Lightroom (the digital dark room photographers work in) tools and trick otherwise known as Actions and Presets – and using these actions & presets  you turn the photo into something more vintage looking.

There is no doubt that Vintage Wedding Photography is in high demand and vintage looking wedding photos have a dream like quality to them.

In the following examples below I show a before and after, the original image is exactly as taken and has not been touched up in Photoshop – The vintage wedding photo version has been processed in both Lightroom and then Photoshop to create the final Vintage look.

One of the big advantages of modern digital wedding photography is the ability to change the look of a photograph relatively quickly and we can add the vintage look to any, all or none of the photos we take at a wedding.

Vintage wedding photography (actually its a look rather than a style) is available at the push of a button so if you are interested in having any of your photos processed this way be sure to let us know.  If you are thinking of having a Vintage themed style wedding then naturally the look of vintage wedding photos would fit you wedding perfectly.
