Cotswolds Wedding Photography – Pre wedding shoot

Bassem and Shelley’s Engagement Shoot

Burnham on Sea

Shelley and Bassem came to visit me a few months back to view what I had to offer, it was obvious right away that this was a perfect match, they fell in love with my albums, my photos and what I offer and I could right away this would be a great wedding to be photographing.  I got very excited when the told me there were getting married at The Swan Hotel in Bibury in the Cotswolds –   Although I am based in Worcestershire, the Cotswolds is less than an hour away, I love photographing weddings there because it really is a beautiful part of the country and The Swan Hotel sits right alongside the river and is a truly fabulous wedding venue.  Shelley and Bassem booked me on the spot and we set about thinking of what we would for their engagement session.

The first choice was a butterfly park however with dates / weather and the costs associated with taking commercial photo’s at the butterfly parks, that option didnt work so Shelley and Bassem decided that they wanted a beach location pre wedding shoot.  Since they have family in the area the couple chose the beautiful location of Burnham on Sea and this weekend we met up and shot a few photos.

I should point out that although it looks like a nice day it was actually pretty cold and very windy but this did not effect the photos in any way – if you accept the weather conditions your shooting and and adapt to having fun and getting great images even cold windy days turn out to be GREAT photo shoots !

I am often asked what its like being photographed by me ?  so I shot a few behind the scenes photos to show you !

I was lucky enough to be assisted on this shoot by a great portrait and wedding photographer called Dav Hughes – Dav is based around Gloucestershire and when I mentioned how excited I was to be shooting on the beach on a photographers forum volunteered to come along and help me out – its a good job he did because it was really windy ! You can visit Dav’s Website at http://www.davhughes.com/ Since I had Dav with me I decided to take along something called a BEAUTY DISH – basically a massive big light modifier – not something I generally do, I mainly use it for studio portraits etc.

So here is a bit of a pull back shot

and here is what the shot ended up looking like.

I hope you have enjoyed this sneak peek at Shelley and Bassems engagement photos, a big shout out to Dav Hughes for helping me out on the day and a special thanks to Shelley and Bassem for being such troopers – at the end I got a little hug from Shelley and she was like a block of ice – poor girl froze the proverbials  off !

ciao

Worcestershire Wedding Photography / Engagement Session

Hannah and Dave’s Engagement Shoot / Malvern Hills / Worcestershire

This weekend saw me catching up with Hannah and Dave whos wedding I will be photographing later this summer.  Hannah and Dave are getting married in Malvern Worcestershire, a beautiful part of the country and decided that since it was going to be a Malvern Wedding it had to be a Malvern Hills Engagement Session.

We were sort of tied to dates and times as the couple dont actually live in Worcestershire and were here visiting friends and family.  I travel all over the country and would have happily popped up to see them but they wanted the engagement session to take place on the hills overlooking the beautiful town of Malvern.  The weather was not its best to be fair but that did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of Hannah and Dave or to curb their sense of fun !  So while the rain came down we shot photos –  The guys were troopers and for the second time in a week I got pretty wet at an engagement session but ended up with some cracking photos.  The last photo of the day that I call ‘The Joshua Tree’ shot had me lying down on the wet ground followed by a cold walk back down the hill – but I would not have it any other way – when I am taking photos its all about the couple and making sure their photos are something special.

Here you go, a few from the day.

As I always do, I give my couples a sneak peek before I pop them on the blog, I was thrilled to wake up this morning to this from Hannah.

Hi David,

We’re both really impressed, there’s bags of joy in these pics.

You’ve captured our sense of silliness (and there’s plenty of it!)

……

Best wishes

Hannah

(and you won the footie too!)

What a great way to start the week !

Two in a row – Another award winning wedding photo !

Wow – where does the time fly ?

I seems only a couple of week ago I blogged about winning an award on the Drama Free Photography website.

As a professional photographer I think its important to constantly challenge yourself and there is no better way for a photographer to do this than entering competitions.  Being judged by ones piers has always been the best way for one to grow in any profession.  As a member of the PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS only Drama Free Photography Forum –  a collection of professional photographers from all over the world, whos membership is made up with members of such photography society’s as   The MPA – The Master Photographers Association, The SWPP – The Society of Wedding & Portrait Photographers,  The ISPWP – The International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers, The AG|WPJA The Artistic Guild of the Wedding Photojournalist Association and many many  more I enter their monthly image competitions.

February sees major changes to the competition, mainly an anonymous team of judges, each awarding marks for differing aspects of the submitted images, two submission allowed each month and the winning categories being, Gold, Silver and Bronze, to achieve Gold you need to amass more than 80 points from the judges.

I am pleased to say one of my two images submitted this month won a Bronze award.

This is the image in question

The image is from the wedding of Isabel and Phil – The wedding took place in Codsall nr Wolverhampton in the West Midlands.

If you’re a professional photographer and would like a friendly, honest forum to get good advice about your work and your business, then click on the banner below and apply for membership. Please note that the gold winners have their images shown on the slideshow, so if at work or if easily offended by nudity (artistic nudity, that is!), then maybe shield your screen from others, as one of this month’s gold winners contains just that!

Ciao

Latest Gold Award Winning Wedding Photo

Worcestershire Wedding Photographer wins Gold Award

Reportage / Documentary Wedding Photography

Hello there,  David here from www.davidpurslow.com

I am very pleased to be able to announce that I recently won a Gold award.  Last month I shot a fantastic wedding at Gellifawr in Pembrokeshire West Wales.  I am pleased to say that one of the photos from this wedding won top place and received a gold award by DFP

Each month members are encouraged to enter two photos to be voted upon. There is a panel of judges selected from the membership of the forum (of which I am not a judge!) and who judge each entry submitted.  If an image received enough ‘points’ it will be awarded either a Bronze, Silver or Gold award.

The top image each month take center stage on the front page of the Drama Free Photography website.

This is the Gold Award image that took the top spot for January 2011

The image is hard to see if there is a lot of white area around your screen so I have put it up again below on a black background – the image was processed on a colour calibrated screen and if your screen is set up correctly you should be able to see the grass around the couple, the rocks etc – if you cant then your screen is off or there is too much light facing your eyes

below is a link to expand this page – there you will see a bigger version of the image on a black background.
