Alive and Kicking – Getting Back to work……

Hello there,

For those of you who are regular followers of my blog you will have noticed around 4 months I stopped posting updates as often as I normally do – the reasons for this were two fold.

In the past 4 months I have been working on opening a Studio and I am proud to say the new studio is now ready and is open for business, this is where I now work each and every day, no more locking myself away in the spare bedroom and meeting clients in the dining room. – I will post about the studio shortly.

Around 6 weeks ago I also started to feel unwell, after a few doctors visits, a CAT scan and being poked and prodded pretty much everywhere its possible to poke and prod both inside and outside of the body and after having a camera taking a good look around inside of me I was diagnosed with a serious Kidney Infection – So serious I needed to have 1/2 a Kidney removed.

Last week I underwent surgery to remove the effected area and I am very pleased to say it was a total success and apart from being a bit sore and tender I am now well on the road to recovery.

I visited the studio today for the first time since coming out of the Hospital and starting tomorrow I will be back there working for a few hours each day – over the next 2 – 3 weeks I will build up to working full time and getting caught up with my outstanding Albums and blog posts – WATCH THIS SPACE as there is going to be a HUGE flow of new work to come.

I just quickly want to say a few thank you’s – more in the next post

First off I want to thank ALL the staff at Redditch Alexandra Hospital – From my consultant to the people who clean the wards I can honestly and whole heartedly say I have never every seen such a dedicated and professional bunch of people – it was very inspirational.  The cleaners were so meticulous (I had hours to sit and watch them) that every single square inch from the inside of each and every bedside lamp to insde of the rails the curtains on were cleaned on a daily basis.  The Nursing staff were fantastic apart from waking me up every hour for 36 hours to poke, prod and check all my vitals etc were fantastic, The ladies who delivered breakfast each day were so friendly and took great pleasure in presenting you with a cup of tea just to your liking.  There are so many people to mention that I cant pick out one person on their own but I was totally blown away by my treatment – you hear horror stories all the time about the NHS but even if I tried I cant think of a bad word to say – I would like to add that the food given to the patients is outstanding – it was always hot, large portions, you got exactly what you asked for and it was super tasty – Nikki (Mrs P) had a hospital say in Pembrokeshire following the birth of Joshua and the food she was served was terrible to say the lease – one day it was a single cold boiled potato the size of a cricket ball and a dried out boiled ham slab that tasted like it was fake skin right from the operating theater – This was my expectation and I was so pleasantly surprised by the difference and the amazing quality of the food at Redditch I am going to see if i can book a table once a month for dinner !

Mrs P did take some nice photos of me in my stockings and when the back of the gown didnt quite cover my bottom but I will save those for another day.

Second off I want to thank all of my past brides and the future ones who this effected – I had in the time I cannot work 4 weddings I could not cover – well with talking to the couples these were all resolved so thanks to all of you, it has made my life a whole lot easier and stress free.

For all my brides waiting for blog stories, proof’s, albums etc – over the next month I will be working on all of that – the only work I can do is computer work so rest assured every second I am working, I will be working on catching up – again thanks to each and every one of you for your understanding and more importantly for your best wishes and notes of support.

I dont want to make anyone blush but one couple in particular really made me feel very special and brought a tear to my eyes.  Two weeks ago or there abouts I visited London to shoot the Engagement Session of Niamh and James, it was a GREAT shoot (pics coming soon) and the couple were so understanding to say the least, their wedding was this weekend and was the first one I missed – (more in the next post)  Well the day I woke up after having my Kidney removed Mrs P brought in a beautiful hand written card from the two of them that was filled with amazing best wishes and really kind words – I was speechless – Thank you guys.

Its GREAT to be back, and watch this space for lots and lots of new posts over the coming weeks !

Rosie and Jason’s Engagement Shoot at Witley Court

Rosie and Jason are getting married in a few weeks in Droitwich with a wedding reception at the magnificent Elms Hotel in Worcestershire.

A few weeks ago I met up with Rosie and Jason for an engagement shoot at Witley Court in Worcestershire.  Witley court is a truly spectacular venue for this kind of photo shoot – you need to buy a license to use it commercially but its money well spent – even in the poring rain which we had  all day.

We started off in the church next to Witley Court hoping the rain would hold off, but alas it did not but I have to give the couple credit – they were troopers, no matter what I asked them to do, even sitting on the ground (albeit on my reflector) they just dived right in.  The other thing was the fountain at Witley Court only goes off twice an hour and each time it does it gets quite an audience so Rosie and Jason had a good crowd watching them be all romantic and in love.

Here are a few from the day.

Inside the church at Witley Court

Then it was outside into the rain. here it was raining hard, we had a tiny space under a tree to stage  a few pics !

But the rain did not dampen the spirits of Rosie and Jason – When your in love, rain is nothing to worry about.

I will post a fun photo of Iain (I got a good few shots of him) when I post the full blog story.  Iain’s website is http://www.gomesphotography.net/

The Wedding of Laura and Matt

A beautiful Pembrokeshire Wedding
photography by David Purslow

.
Hi there,

A bit of a self indulgent post today, a couple of weeks ago saw me shooting the wedding of Laura and Matt – very good family friends.  The wedding took place at Haywood Mount in Tenby in Pembrokeshire.  Mrs P and the kids came along for the day so it was a fantastic day all round – made special by spending it with friends, family and loved ones.

I say the post is a bit indulgent because normally my blog posts tell the story of the day, well this one is slightly different, I am going to tell the story of Matt and Laura.  During the morning Laura was worried Matt would be stressing out – as you will see in the photos his mates made sure that was not the case and he seemed very relaxed, he even managed to give me dozens of great poses for the camera.

So lets start off with just a few details,

Laura’s beautiful Tiara and the rings

wedding tiara

haywood mount wedding photos

Then I went to find my beautiful bride for the day – this was the first photo of Laura that I took on her wedding day.

and then while Lyn the Makeup Lady was working on Laura

This may look like a set up shot but this was ALL LAURA !

AS WAS THIS

tenby wedding photographer

and special moments for Laura, speding time with one of her daughters who was going to be one of the flower girls

then Laura was pretty much ready and looked fantastic – what a beautiful bride

bride getting ready

and just at that moment in came Laura’s other little girl – I JUST LOVE THE EXPRESSIONS THESE PHOTOS CAUGHT

bridal preparations

Then it was final few last minute adjustments

While this little one ‘posed’ for just one photo !

and well – then its time for a bit of perfume !

funny bride photo

and Laura pops on that final bit of lippy

bride in mirror

So here we are going to jump back in time just a little – we are back to about where Laura is still in her dressing gown.  As I mentioned before Laura and Matt are good friends so Laura confided in me that she was worried that Matt was going to be a little nurverous before the wedding, several people told her that he was looking a little worried – so I went off in search of Matt to see for myself.

When I found Matt – I very quickly shot a whole bunch of photos and chilled a bit with him, needless to say when I got back to Laura’s room I had good news to report – far from being a wreck Matt seemed to be taking it all in his stride (at this time:-)

In the first 3 shots, Matt was just chilling with some of the Lads – standing off a little ways and using a longer lens this was Matt being Matt not posing for the camera !

relaxed groom

groom looking relaxed

Unfortunatly I cant say the same for these photos.

Because it was so Sunny, I found a nice wall in a slightly shady spot and then got Matt to stand by it and give me a few looks

MATT THE THINKER

MATT THE CHEEKY DUDE

MATT THE ARE YOU LOOKING AT ME DUDE

MATT THE LOVER

and then about 10 minutes before the wedding – came Matt the serious dude.  I felt for Matt here he was starting to look a little white around the gills as they say

groom looking nervous

but as you can see Laura was coming down the hall way with a BIG smile on her face

bride just before walking down aisle

and then a little bit of a serious look appeared, here Laura is standing just outside the door to the wedding room at Haywood Mount – about 30 feet away from Matt – just a couple of minutes before she walked down the Aisle.

just before walking down aisle

Then while Laura walked down the Aisle Matt was looking pretty serious, I am sure there was a tear there somewhere:-)

Once Matt and Laura were side by side he started to get a little colour back.  Laura is looking over at me as I have one of the little ones next to me who is looking at photos on the back of my second camera at the time – it kept her entertained for a good while.

laughing at aisle

and then the happy smiles returned to Matt – they were also joined at the front by one of the little ones.

little baby joins wedding

Its all smiles as the couple start saying their vows to each other – I love the look of emotion that Laura is giving Matt

just before wedding kiss

Then all too soon, The rings go on – I love the actual wedding service and its one of my favorite parts of the day to photograph and I know pretty soon after the rings start going on that the couple will be married and then the service will be over – The actual wedding service always makes for GREAT wedding photos – the range of emotions the couples go thru, the looks they give each other, the hand holding, the tears etc.

putting the wedding ring on

and this is just one such example, I would LOVE to know what Laura is thinking right at this moment, one of my favorite photos from the day – its one of my favorites because I know the couple and I have seen similar expressions on Laura’s face when she is talking about or playing with the girls and I know its a genuine emotion from deep inside. – This shot is the REAL LAURA !

funny look

and this is THE REAL LAURA AND MATT – you could  almost feel the relief flowing out of Matt here

the big kiss

The its was time for the signing of the register shots – I have sent the couple over 500 + photos which include all the ones that normally go here so there is no just look at the camera signing photo in this set, this set of pics is all about the couple sharing the day, the emotion they both went thru and the enjoyment as a family they felt.

family shot

I dont think at this stage that Matt was the only one who felt relief at having the wedding  ceremony over

married couple

The day was full of joy and lots and lots of kids, there was even a big bouncy castle for the kids to play on – I shot the confetti shot in front of it as it took up one whole end of the garden.

confettia

and I am happy to say my friends could not keep their hands off each other – to me this is what a wedding is all about, two people in love becoming one couple and enjoying the hell out of the day.

more confetti

and dont you agree, Matt looks a hell of a lot more relaxed that he did 20 minutes ago:-)

relaxed groom after wedding

and yet again, couldnt keep them apart – none of these photos (apart from confetti one and the group shot were set up – these were all just shot from the side lines and were totally natural captures – Laura and Matt were all over each other and it was GREAT too see !

couple kissing after wedding

and Matt was not the only one who was happy and showing it – I love this voyeuristic shot of Laura,

bride laughing after wedding

and while the girls were having photos taken by friends I snapped this one, Laura spotted me out of the corner of her eye and just as I took it turned to look at me – what a cheeky little look

bride and bridesmaid

Group shot photos are very important to me, I think they sum up what a wedding is all about – being surrounded by all your friends

group shot at haywood mount

Although this post is all about the couple I just had to drop this one in there, this is the room set up for the wedding breakfast – I had never seen table toppers  like this – they looked amazing.  The staff at Haywood mount turned the room over very quickly and its a credit to them, the room looked amazing.

wedding room setup haywood mount tenby

After dinner Laura and Matt decided that we were taking a trip to the beach,  I should point out it was very windy, threatening rain and was pretty over cast – but that never stops me – I am often heard saying that your SKIN is WATERPROOF  – We had a blast on the beach and got loads and loads of great photos

beach wedding photos

Then it was back to Haywood Mount for the night time to start and the couples first dance as husband and wife ! – again I love this shot.

first dance

This was a great wedding for me because I got to spend the day with not only Laura and Matt but with Mrs P and I saw Joshua and Soukie having a whale of a time.  Joshua loves spending time with Laura’s two little ones (whos names I do now but I generally dont put other peoples kids names on the internet)  Nikki had a great time because she saw Laura and Matt get married and had Helen to hang out with who also helped with our two when she was not helping me out.

Here is one last one to end off with, it was shot on the beach as we walked back to the car – I LOVE THIS PHOTO.

wedding photos tenby beach

Naturally it just leaves me to say a HUGE congratulations to Laura and Matt – thanks for letting me be a part of your big day.

hugs, kisses,

ciao

stunning photos…catured the emotion and atomsphere of the whole day.

A Very Special Thank You

To Paul Goode Photography

Hello there,

This weekend saw me shooting the wedding of Simonie and Mitchell – (see below)

If your a regular to my blog you will know I generally work with an assistant / second shooter and its because of the people I work with that I feel I can create the kinds of images my clients seem to love and want.  Well this week Helen was not able to make it and after putting into practice my backup procedures I am very happy to say that Paul jumped into to help me out.

Paul (Paul Goode) from Paul Goode Photography – http://www.paulgoodephotography.co.uk is based in Sutton Coldfield and is a very talented wedding & portrait photographer in his own right.

Although I am now fully booked myself  for 2011 I know Paul has a few slots left and I have no hesitation at all in recommending him.

Paul spent the morning with the boys while I spent the morning with the girls then we teamed up at the church to provide amazing coverage of Simonie and Mitchell’s big day which carried on to Hampton Manor for the reception.  Paul continued to second shoot and also assisted me with lighting etc for the bridal portraits and some of my signature images.

I know Paul probably wont enjoy this photo but I do try to capture photos of my assistants / second shooters working throughout the day however this was the the only photos I managed to capture of Paul this Saturday since the wedding was so FULL ON and we worked our socks off.

so for the record – THANKS PAUL – your my hero and you helped make me look good !

Sneak Peek – The wedding of Simonie and Mitchell

.
Hi there, short and sweet from me tonight, this is just a sneak peek – Just 6 photos from the amazing wedding of Simonie and Mitchell.  The full blog story will be up in around 10 days time and then I will fill you in on all the details etc – but this was another wedding for a couple from outside the UK – Simonie and Mitchell are from Australia so Simonie was planning a wedding in England from the other side of the world !

I remember when meeting up with Simonie on one of her vists to the UK when she  first time they told me they were getting married at St Mary’s Church in Lapworth, it was not a Church I was familiar with so I had to do a drive by – I was so excited from that moment on – the church up on the bank looked amazing and I knew it would make for great photos – little did I know just how good it would really be.

Anyway, as I said this is just a sneak peek – I have picked 5 of my favorite shots from the day all for various reasons so enjoy.

The rest of the photos are on a white background – I am moving over to a white background but have not done the portrait (vertical ones yet)

Okay, off to bed now, Yesterday was a long day, I shot for over 13 hours ! but enjoyed every second of it.

I would also just quickly like to think Paul from Paul Goode Photography - http://www.paulgoodephotography.co.uk for assisting me on the day.  I have known Paul for about a year now, he is a very talented photographer from the Sutton Coldfield area.  Paul stepped in for Helen who could not make this wedding.  Thanks Paul for all your hard work and amazing photos.

Thank you David!

It was fantastic to see some photos of our big day on your website before we headed off on our honeymoon and where able to relive the day. It’s also been great to see the slideshow, bringing back wonderful memories….

I love all the photos above but I’m biased and love the photo with my dog! She didn’t want to miss being a part of the big day… Thank you for capturing it.

Can’t wait for the photo album!

Who said wedding photography was all about cameras……

Hey,

Just a quick post today,

I started going to the photos from last weekends amazing wedding of Laura and Matt

Well it was very early in the day and I was up in the room while the girls were having hair and makeup done and as I turned around I saw the bride taking my photo, I quickly snapped a camera of Laura snapping me !

wedding photography

Naturally I couldnt post a photo of Laura without posting one of Matt – this one was taken about half an hour before the wedding,  Laura was worried that Matt was feeling stressed – well that was not the case – he was living it large for the camera at the time !

Matt being ultra cool

Right its party time in the Purslow household as its our Daughters 2nd birthday today, so enough work – off to party !

Getting married at Gellifawr Pembrokeshire

The Wedding of Tree and Tom

Hi there,

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Teresa (Tree) and Tom – I had first spoken to the couple via Skype while they were in Texas (USA) and they booked me on the spot.  So it was not until the day of the wedding that I first met Tree and Tom.  You might thing that strange but I actually only meet around 50 % of my clients before the actual wedding.

Tree and Tom had expressed exactly what they were looking for and I had a few secret emails with Tree about the dress etc – I got ever excited when i knew that Tree would be wearing a deep red wedding dress – I  knew this would make for great photos, then I heard that they wanted to go up to Pentre Ifan and shoot some similar photos those I shot at the wedding of Liz and Hayden.

Well I turned up to Gellifawr which is a GREAT place for a wedding with lots of amazing photo opportunities, no mobile phone signal so no distractions and the most friendly and efficient staff you could ever wish to find.  I shoot a lot of weddings in Pembrokeshire since I lived there for 7  years and Gellifawr is one of my favorite venues.

gellifawr hotel pembrokeshire

From the second I arrived I knew the theme of the day would be flowers, butterflies and bows – and I have never seen the inside of the hotel looking so good – The ceiling was dressed -  this was the first time I had seen this at this venue

getting married at gellifawr

and talking of butterflies, there were amazing ones hanging from the ceiling

pembrokeshire wedding photography

and did I mention flowers ?  well these had butterflies as well:-)

and I decided to use these for the ring shot

wedding ring photos

and since I am doing the flowers at this time, here is a beautiful wand that the young bridesmaid carried – I saw it sitting on a window sill next to it was the buttonholes

bridesmaid want with red rose

white button hole

so after we shot all the detail shots etc, we took a trip to the brides room to photograph the wedding dress – it was breathtaking – there is something magical about red wedding dresses (maybe it could be because Nikki my wife wore one on at our wedding)

red wedding dress

I knew the second I saw the dress it was going to look spectacular on and couldnt wait to get the couple outside for a few ‘signature style photos’

While Tree got dressed Tom got a special gift – it was beautiful, and it came in a very special little blue box

shortly after this Tree was ready and made her way over to the main hotel building for the wedding service, naturally I used this time to grab a few shots

bride in red wedding dress

and a closeup of the beautiful Tree in her amazing wedding dress

and then the moment all brides dream about – walking down the aisle

and looking at Tree walking down the aisle was Tom – this photo gave Tom huge kudos with all the girls at the wedding, if he hadnt just got married……..  well lets say he let is softer side show !

and the happy couple got married !

and the exchange of rings

and then as man and wife they walked down the aisle together

at this stage I let the couple have a mad 10 minutes with their guests before starting to shoot the formals

The big group shot

while we were outside the staff turned over the room and dressed it for the wedding breakfast – again tons of detail went into this and it looked amazing

Then while the guests were being seated for the wedding breakfast I took the couple off for 15 minutes for a few of my signature style images – these are the more artistic, staged images.

Then it was back inside for the wedding breakfast, after this were the speeches and I shot this pretty much in a photo journalistic way (raportage style) – around 2/3rds of my coverage is shot this way I dont often put too many of them on the blog as I like to get in the details, the wedding and the other shots but today decided to give you a small selection.

*** ooops I suddenly realised that I forgot to show you a photo of the brides bouquet, I know its out of order but its such a stunning arrangement that I have just got to pop it here

Then after dinner it was time for the first dance, and here is quick one from that

Normally after the first dance is where the photos stop, however Tree and Tom had requested a sunset trip to Pentre Ifan – its a burial chamber that kind of looks like a mini Stone Henge and it makes for great photos.

What an amazing day – I cant say a big enough thanks to Tree and Tom for choosing me to be part of their big day, I had the time of my life it was a great wedding and I am delighted with the results.  I know Tree and Tom are due back from Honeymoon today so have put the photos up for their return.  I wish them all the very best in the world and hope that the joy and the happiness they experienced on that day lasts their lifetime.

Congratulations guys,

ciao

Wow David,

That’s one stunning set of wedding pictures you have crafted here. It does help that you have a couple who are up for getting out into the landscape and spending the time. But both creatively and technically, the results are stunning. I also enjoyed the use of the claret armchair as a prop.

Got some great inspiration out of these shots

Keep up the good work and all the best

Laura and Matt’s Pembrokeshire Wedding

Hi there,

Very quick post from me this morning, I am still on the road but found some internet access.

Yesterday saw me shooting the wedding of Laura and Matthew in beautiful Pembrokeshire.  Matt and Laura are good friends so it was a special wedding.  Laura has asked if we could pop to the beach and shoot some arty shots – naturally the weather was not playing  ball and it was windy as hell ! but that wouldnt stop me or Laura and Matt !

Here is a quick one we snagged on the beach – this is unedited as I am on my laptop but wanted to share – the veil is blowing in the wind – LOVE it !
